In that Photoshop lesson you will learn how professionals do skin retouching. The skin will look healthy and, most importantly, without a “plastic” effect or blurring.

I hope you like our Photoshop courses. Let's start the lesson...

1. Open the photo in Photoshop.

In this photo retouching tutorial, try using high resolution images where you can see skin texture.

2. Make a duplicate of the layer and paste it into the group.

To do this, click Ctrl+J to duplicate the layer, and then Ctrl+G to place the newly created layer into a group. We call the group “Airbrush” and the layer “Blur”.

We will use the “Blur” layer to blur the skin. Then, we will add another new layer to bring back the natural texture of the skin.

3. Select the “Blur” layer.

To blur the current layer, use surface blur filter. This filter is similar to Gaussian Blur, the difference being that it leaves the edges with more detail. We need to blur the layer so that the skin is smooth, but without blurry edges.

4. Result of applying the Surface Blur filter.

Your drawing should look similar to mine, the details of the eye should be intact.

5. Create a new layer and place it above the blur layer.

Let's name the current layer “Texture” and change the blending handle to harsh light(Hard Light). The existing layer will be used to add texture to the skin as well as adjust the tone of the skin.

6. The texture created in this layer will not really be noticeable in the final image.

It can be seen if you apply high magnification. But despite this, the skin will not look too smooth or “plastic”.

Below is a prototype of the resulting result.

7. Make sure you have the “Texture” layer selected.

Click Shift+F5 or go to the list Editing > Fill(Edit – Fill). Set the Fill tool settings as in the picture below.

8. Next, select from the menu Filter > Noise.

This will add slight noise to the image, which will avoid the “plastic skin effect”. Using a filter may cause your photo to look overly sharp. In the next step we will fix this by applying a filter Gaussian blur(Gaussian Blur).

9. Select from the menu Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur.

Set the blur radius to 1 pixel.

10. Now we will take a color sample from this layer.

To begin, select the Eyedropper tool. Take a sample of the skin color that seems most suitable to you; you may not be entirely accurate, since we will radically adjust the color later. In the color palette, click on the Lilliputian triangle in the circle and select a model from the pop-up list H.S.B.. We need to know the HSB values for the next step.

11. Open the panel Hue/saturation, by pressing Ctrl+U.

Check the box Tint and check the parameters to ensure they match the parameters H.S.B. from the top step.

12. Select the “Airbrush” group in the Layers panel.

Then go to the menu Layer>Layer Mask>Hide All(Layer – Layer mask – Hide all).

This will create a layer mask filled with black, which will hide the entire group. In this layer mask we will paint the areas where we want to add retouching.

13. Press D on your keyboard to set the default background color to black and white.

Select a tool Brush with the following settings.

Enlarge the illustration to 100% and paint over the skin. Don't worry if your skin tone doesn't seem right. This is because we did not select the exact color when we used Hue/Saturation with a tint on the Texture layer. Simply, then it is very difficult to accomplish. We will come to the correct result a little later. Use the following Photoshop hotkeys, in order to change the brush size and hardness:
* Reduce brush size: [
* Increase brush size: ] * Decrease brush softness by 25%: Shift + [
* Multiply brush softness by 25%: Shift + ]

Where you painted over the skin, your layer mask should have white areas and the skin should look smooth.

14. Now we are going to correct the skin color.

We've talked about this before in this tutorial on retouching skin in Photoshop. So, select the “Texture” layer and click Ctrl+U. Change the settings to achieve your normal skin tone.

IN " Color tone” settings are usually correct. But I increased it by 10 units, adding a yellow tint to reduce the red areas.
Settings " Saturation” often have to be significantly reduced. Adjust the setting until your skin tone looks good, but not pale.
Brightness” on the contrary, requires minor changes, when you adjust it, you will see how sensitive this parameter is. If the Brightness is adjusted accurately, the photo will look more natural.

15. Let's restore the details of the skin.

Let's go to the list Image > External channel(Image – Apply Image). In the window that appears, set the following settings.

Final results.

Here you can see the final photo after using the airbrush technique.

By changing the image range, you will notice that small skin irregularities are still visible. Even in the lower right image, the result looks natural due to the Texture layer. Outside of this layer, the image would appear as a solid color without noise.

Face retouching in Photoshop is a mandatory step, an important step towards a beautiful and aesthetically attractive photograph. Not all images require additional processing, but often you simply cannot do without it. Professional and amateur photographers know how to get the perfect shot. Adobe Photoshop is just the tool without which it is difficult to enjoy the captured moment.

What is retouching?

Retouching is the improvement of photographs using photo editor tools. In Photoshop, skin processing is done with the Stamp Tool, Healing Brush, or Patch Tool. A “stamp” places one part of an image on top of another. Knowledge of basic, simple retouching is necessary if it is related to the main activity, such as photography. Editing gets rid of minor skin defects and imperfections in the image that arose during the shooting process. Face retouching automatically helps the photographer save time and effort in post-processing. Often the final result requires manual correction. Beginners can use one of the leather cleaning methods called "Color Contrast". It removes pimples and makes the texture clean and even.

Sequencing

  • Invert the copy of the photo Ctrl+I, select the blending mode "Linear Light".
  • Go to the "Image" - "Correction" - "Brightness/Contrast" tab. Check the box "Use previous", the contrast value is -50.
  • Click the "Filter" - "Other" - "Color Contrast" tab. The blur radius should be approximately 20 pixels.
  • Next, “Filter” - “Gaussian Blur”. Increase the blur radius to 3.9.
  • Add a black mask to the photo, activate a brush with soft edges, color - white, opacity 30-40%. With the layer mask activated, brush over the face and neck, avoiding the eyes and lips.

Photoshop program

Today everyone knows what a photo editor is. Retouching a face, creating collages, drawings, vectors - the Photoshop program can do all this and more. Adobe Photoshop CS6 is the reference version of the famous graphics editor, which has intriguing features. The Content Aware feature makes photo processing smart and comfortable. A beautiful and user-friendly interface with the ability to process video is a huge plus of this version. There are file navigators Bridge and Mini Bridge. They allow you to sort and manage images. The presence of hot keys, a clear interface, flexible settings and realistic effects makes the program ideal.

Advantages

Who doesn't dream of mastering a photo editor? Facial retouching improves the photo, if it is correct, it adds dynamism. The Photoshop program has many advantages, regardless of the version. With its help, it is easy to edit single images, do batch processing, and create complex collages and drawings. A graphics tablet improves the quality of images and simplifies the work of designers, photographers and retouchers. The program provides a large space for creativity and work.

How to master it?

Many facial retouching programs (such as Portrait Professional) are quite easy to use. With their help, it is easy to do light retouching, which does not require energy expenditure from the user. Often such programs process photographs in automatic mode, which saves time, but negatively affects the result. The Photoshop program, including early versions, is quite difficult to master, as it is aimed at professionals and complex tasks.

The workspace includes a toolbar, photo processing area, workspace, taskbar, histogram, navigator and other functions. The main tools of the program are brushes, stamp, eraser, lasso, spot brush, healing brush, highlighters, crop, darken, lighten. They allow you to perform various manipulations with photos. Mastering the program begins with studying the workspace and capabilities of Photoshop.

A huge variety of lessons will help beginners understand the basics of image editing. Face retouching is one of the main techniques of an amateur photographer. If you want to achieve perfection in this matter, look at the work of famous retouchers, constantly learn (including from mistakes) and develop.

What is it for?

Facial retouching is a mandatory stage of professional beauty treatment. Glossy magazines, fashion publications, and cosmetics catalogs never publish “raw” photographs. Readers see a finished, retouched photograph with a little gloss added. Often, when editing beauty and fashion photographs, retouchers use the technique of frequency decomposition. It allows you to even out the skin without losing quality and texture. In addition, the “plastic” tool is used, general color correction of the image is carried out, darkening and lightening the desired areas, adjusting brightness and contrast. Retouching allows you to achieve an ideal, harmonious picture, and this is highly valued in commercial activities.

Face retouching rules

Professional facial retouching in Photoshop is a painstaking process that requires the retoucher to have certain knowledge and skills. A good photograph is difficult to make perfect, but easy to ruin. Beginners often make mistakes by creating a “blurred” effect on their face. In this case, the skin texture (pores, wrinkles), facial expressions, shadows completely disappear, the face becomes plastic. Professionals give some tips on how not to ruin a photo.

  • Work with high-resolution images in RAW format.
  • Evaluate the photo visually. Decide what defects need to be removed and what actions are needed to improve the photo.
  • Always create a copy when you upload a photo to the program.
  • Do the retouching on a new layer.
  • Skin should have texture, forget about plastic faces. This is no longer relevant.
  • Do not completely remove shadows under the eyes, otherwise your face will become flat.
  • Don't remove all wrinkles from your face. The absence of facial expressions does not make the portrait attractive.
  • The edges of the lips should have shadows and the contours should be clear.
  • The natural color of the pupils in portrait retouching is correct.
  • Retouching always depends on the specific photo and the overall plan.
  • Stick to naturalness when retouching your face.

Remember that perfect retouching on a photograph is invisible.

Tools

Face retouching in Photoshop CS6, as in earlier versions, is carried out using the tools that are located on the side and top panels. The “Selection” group is necessary for quickly moving the desired areas. These include Lasso, Magic Wand, and Quick Selection. The Crop tools are designed to crop a picture. Using the Retouching tools, defects in a photo are removed, sharpness, blur, saturation, and tone are adjusted. The toolbar also includes “Coloring”, “Drawing”, “Text”.

Actions and plugins

Many may be interested in the question of how to do facial retouching quickly and efficiently. To simplify the work of the retoucher, plugins and actions were created. The first ones are included in the package of the Photoshop program: Gaussian blur, distortion, noise and others. In addition, plugins can be additionally downloaded and installed. They work automatically and do the main work for the retoucher (stylization, retouching, toning). The downside is that photography has more to lose than it gains from such quick stylization. Actions add drama to the image, toning, stylizing, and adding various effects.

Errors

Face retouching is a complex process that requires the amateur photographer to have knowledge, a sense of taste and proportion. Professionals point out the ten most common mistakes in processing portrait photographs.

  • Faux leather. Regardless of the processing method, the skin should look natural. The skin texture is too fine, aggressive or dry, completely artificial, reminiscent of marble - incorrect retouching.
  • Excessive drawing of volumes using the Dodge and Burn technique (darkening/lightening). Deep detail of shadows and light patterns is relevant for photo art, but not for professional retouching.
  • Flat face. Anatomical lack of volume (shadow/light) on convex or sunken parts of the face - under the lip, eyes, cheekbones, above the eyelids - makes the face uninteresting. The lack of realism in flat photographs makes such photographs pass by.
  • Matte skin. Beautiful matte skin looks healthy, but if there are no highlights on it, it looks unnatural.
  • White squirrels. There should be natural shadows in the model's eyes in the photo. Natural color, glare in the pupils - all this decorates the photograph.
  • Repeating elements. If the retoucher cleans the skin with a patch or stamp, it should not be repeated on the surface of the face (when a defective piece of skin overlaps a healthy one). All this is revealed by retouching.
  • Plastic. It is necessary to use this tool in retouching, but you should not overdo it. There are no perfectly straight contours on the human face and body.
  • Toning. The colors in the photograph should be harmonious. You should not use complex filters in automatic mode to add emotionality to the frame. Want to improve your colors? Try doing this manually using the settings.
  • Dynamic range. Face retouching does not require excessive stylization.
  • High contrast. Vignetting, increased sharpening and noise add texture to the photo, but add drama to it and deprive it of naturalness. Think about whether the portrait needs this?
So, I promised to do a short lesson on Photoshop. There are no limits to your capabilities in this program, and it is impossible to grasp everything at once, so let's start from the very beginning: with the treatment of skin, hair, eyes and teeth. I’ll say right away that I use these retouching methods, and I don’t insist on their correctness/convenience, etc. I work in Photoshop CS6.

1. Open the photo:

2. Immediately duplicate the base layer (Background) by clicking Ctrl+J:

3. Let's deal with pimples, unevenness and wrinkles first. Take the tool Healing Brush Tool, select the brush size, copy a clean area of skin ( left-click on a clean area of skin + Alt), and cover up everything that we want to hide.

Final result:

4. Now let's work on the smoothness of the skin. Copy our layer where we removed the stains (Ctrl+J). Let's go to Filter – Other – High Pass. We select a radius value at which our image will look something like this (the colors should disappear, but the outline of the image should remain):

For me this value turned out to be 21. Next, on the same layer, apply a filter Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur. Set the blur radius value to three times smaller than in the previous filter. I got this value to be 7 (21 divided by 3 equals 7).

Invert the layer by clicking Ctrl+I. Selecting the overlap mode Overlay. The image may become blurry.

Create a Layer Mask Alt + layer mask icon(highlighted in the photo). Is the image clear again? Great.

Now select the brush Brush Tool, choose a white color and carefully pass it over the skin, without touching the hair, eyes, eyebrows, lips, facial folds, etc., in order to maintain the overall clarity of the image. Be careful, to draw, there must be an active layer mask, and not the layer itself. You will see the areas you painted appear on the black square of the layer mask. If you make a mistake and paint over an unnecessary area, select a black brush color and use it to remove the excess area. You can play a little with the layer transparency (Opacity), but in my example I left the Transparency at 100%.

Let's add some natural noise to the image. Create a new layer Layer – New – Layer, perform the operation Edit - Fill – 50% Gray.

Add noise to the layer: Filter – Noise - Add noise, select a small value, within 10. Select the overlap mode Overlay. Adjust the transparency of the layer to suit you. In my example, the transparency is 50%.

So that the noise spreads only to the face area, we’ll make a clipping mask: select the noise layer, right-click, and select from the drop-down menu Create Clipping Mask. It is important that the noise layer is directly above the layer where we painted on the skin, since the clipping mask is created only for the underlying layer.

So, smooth, beautiful skin is ready!

5. Let's do the hair now.
In mode quick mask(the icon is shown in the photo below) select the hair (with a brush we paint over what should not be included in the selection).

Turn off the quick mask mode by clicking on the icon again. Now we have the hair selected.

Copy the selection to a new layer (Ctrl+J). Selecting blending mode Overlay. Create an adjustment layer Layer – New Adjastment Layer – Hue/Saturation.

Create a clipping mask for hair (Create clipping mask), and play with the color settings in the window Hue/Saturation(double-click on the layer to open the settings window) to give the hair the desired shade (check the box next to Colorize). Adjust the layer's opacity to a level that makes the hair look natural. You can also change the blending mode of the hair layer to Screen, in some photos this mode is more suitable.

This is the result I got, I didn’t change the hair color, I just gave it a slightly lighter shade:

6. Now let's change the eye color. The principle is the same as with hair: highlight the eyes quick mask mode(we paint over everything except the pupils). Turn off the quick mask mode and copy the resulting selection to a new layer.

Apply an adjustment layer to the new layer and make a clipping mask (Create Clipping Mask), set the overlap mode Overlay.

Changing the settings in the window Hue/Saturation and select the desired color and shade (don’t forget to check the box next to Colorize). Adjust the layer's opacity to make the new eye color look natural.

7. Now let's move on to the teeth. We will bleach them. Selecting teeth quick mask mode.

Turn off the quick mask mode and copy the resulting selection to a new layer. Apply an adjustment layer Hue/Saturation (Layer – Add New Adjastment Layer – Hue/Saturation), make a clipping mask (Create Clipping Mask), leave the overlap mode Normal.
We go into the window Hue/Saturation, inside the window we change the mode from Master on Yellows and remove the value Saturation to zero. Next we go again to Master and there we adjust the value Lightness to the value at which the white shade of the teeth will look natural. Don't overdo it! You can also adjust the layer's transparency value.

Let's look at the end result! To save a photo in JPEG format, you need to connect all the layers; to do this, go to Layers – Merge Visible. Continue as usual File-Save as. Good luck!

In this wonderful lesson, we will restore youth to this girl in just a few minutes. You can download this photo (registration required).

I want to warn you right away that each image requires individual settings.

photoshop lesson

Step 1. So let's get started. If we look at the blue channel in our image we can see that it doesn't look very good. There are many so-called JPG artifacts that are not visible to us in RGB mode. Now we will try to improve the Blue channel a little.

Copy the background layer. Let's apply it to him Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur(Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur). Radius install 10 pixels. Click OK. Blend Mode change to Chroma(Color). Double click on the layer thumbnail. In the window that appears, uncheck the boxes next to R and G. This will allow all changes to be applied only to the Blue channel. Click OK. Look at the blue channel now. Does it really look better?

Step 2. Now we'll use Curves to adjust the colors in the image. I suggest you use Curves rather than Levels because they give us more control over the color.

You can download the settings I used to your computer from here.
Create a new adjustment layer Curves, then, if you are using my settings, click on the arrow at the top right and select from the menu that appears LoadPreset and select the desired file.

Step 3. Now the tool Healing brush(Healing Brush Tool) (J) let's get rid of the main skin defects, in this case we have 4 freckles.

Photoshop lessons in Russian

Create a new layer above the background one. Choosing a tool Healing brush(Healing Brush) (J) and make sure that “Sample All Layers” is selected in the toolbar.

There is one great rule - when retouching, never edit the original layer, you never know when you have to go back. That's why we now created a new layer and edited it.

Step 4. Select all layers except the curves layer (Hold Shift and click on the layer thumbnails in the Layers palette). Drag them to the create a new layer button to copy. Click Ctrl+E to combine them.
Choosing a tool Straight-line lasso(Polygonal Lasso Tool) and select the woman. This may not be done very carefully. Press and hold the key Alt, and remove from the selection everything that does not relate to the skin - eyes, eyebrows, nostrils. We also exclude all kinds of depressions from the selection. This is what my selection looks like in Quick Mask mode:

photo photoshop lessons

Click Shift+ Ctrl+ I, to invert the selection and press the key Delete, to delete selected pixels. In appearance, everything will remain unchanged.

Step 5. Let's move on Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur(Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur). Radius install 20 pixels. We lower Opacity(Opacity) up to 75% . Again, select the three main layers and copy them. Click Ctrl+ E, to merge layers. Move the resulting layer above the erased one. Click Ctrl+ Alt+ G. This will create a clipping mask, which is indicated by a downward-facing arrow next to the layer thumbnail. This means that the top layer will use the transparent pixels of the bottom layer as a mask.

Step 6. Let's move on Filter > Other > Color Contrast(Filter > Other > High Pass). Set the radius to 4 .

photo photoshop lessons

Change the blending mode to Linear light(Linear Light) and lower Opacity(Opacity) up to 40% . ready!

photo photoshop lessons

The purpose of this lesson was to get rid of major imperfections and smooth out the skin, but not to make a person look like a model. This technique is ideal for everyday use.
Good luck and success to you.

In this tutorial, you'll learn about retouching in Photoshop and how to use adjustment layers, lighting, dodging, and burning. And also about frequency separation. The techniques described in this article should work fine in most versions of Photoshop. You can also download the RAW file I used:

1. Start with a Raw file

We start with a raw file or high quality image. If you want to follow me and follow all the steps in parallel, please upload an image. In this case, I'm converting a Raw file to a PSD file. For beautiful photography, the most important thing is lighting. With the right lighting, all shadows are filled with light, and the model's skin looks smooth even without additional processing.

2. Frequency separation for skin tones

At first face retouching in Photoshop We'll duplicate the background layer twice and rasterize each of those duplicates. Right-click and select " Rasterize layer" I called the bottom layer “lo”, and the top layer “ hi" To layer “ lo"I applied" Gaussian blur"with a radius of 10 pixels, and then selected the layer" hi” and went to Image > External channel. I used the parameters shown in the screenshot. Then I set the layer to “ hi” blending mode “Linear light”.

3.Smoothing Skin Colors

We need to select the tool " Healing brush» ( J) and set in the options bar at the top of the program window for “Sample” - “Active layer”. Now we can start working with the “layer” lo" I want to smooth out the bags under my eyes. Working with the “layer” lo”, we only edit the colors of the image and do not remove any texture. This ensures that the model's skin texture remains the same, we are simply brightening the area under the eyes.

4. Additional smoothing

Create a new layer between the layers “ lo" And " hi" Call it “ smoothing" Then select the Brush tool ( B) and in the options bar at the top of the program window, set the brush opacity to 10%.

By pressing Alt/Opt, you can use this tool like an eyedropper to select a color swatch. I select a color swatch in a light area and carefully brush it into the shaded areas of the skin. And then, in the same way, I select a sample in a dark area and paint over the light areas with it. This will allow during retouching photos in Photoshop smooth out skin tones overall.

5. Restoration and removal of defects

Select layer “ hi” and activate the tool “ Healing brush» ( J). Make sure that the “Sample” is set to “Active Layer” in the Options Bar, and then start selecting samples ( click on the area while holding Alt / Opt) on clean areas of the skin and paint over problem areas.

6. Hair treatment

At this stage portrait retouching in Photoshop Let's treat two areas of hair located to the right and left of the jawline and neck. Merge all layers into one. Select the tool " Rectangular area» ( M), select the right side of the image, and then press Cmd / Ctrl + J to create a new layer from it on top of the other layers.

Go to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal and drag the layer using the Move tool ( V) to the left side of the image. I want to apply a mask to this layer of hair and mask off the hair just to the left of the chin.

7. Frequency Separation AGAIN!

Merge all layers into one again. Press Cmd/Ctrl + J to duplicate this layer. Name the bottom layer “l o 2”, and the top one is “ hi 2" We need to blur the layer “ lo 2” with a radius of 10 pixels and apply to the layer “ hi 2” “External channel”, as we did before. Next go to Filter > Sharpen > Smart Sharpen and sharpen the layer “ hi 2” by approximately 150% with a radius of 1.2 pixels. I also want to add to the layer “ hi 2” layer mask which we will use later.

8. Continue to smooth out the tones

Select layer “ lo 2” and activate the “Brush” tool ( B). Paint over the highlights and shadows again like we did before, using a 10% Opacity brush to smooth them out. At this stage skin retouching in Photoshop work on smaller parts.

9. Skin blur

Let's remove small details from the overall skin texture. All we need to do to blur the skin a little is paint black over the areas in the layer mask that we previously added to the layer. hi 2" I use the Brush tool ( B) with an opacity of 10% and softly paint over the areas where I want to remove details.

10. New skin texture

Now we need to add our own artificial skin texture so that the model’s skin does not look unnaturally smooth after retouching the photo in Photoshop. Create a new layer and name it “ Skin Texture Small" Go to Edit > Fill and select 50% gray in the window that opens. Then go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise and add 25% noise.

For the “Distribution” parameter, set it to “Uniform”, check the box next to the “Monochrome” parameter. After that go to Filter > Stylize > Emboss and set the values for “Angle” - 85 degrees, “Height” - 2 and “Effect” about 200%. Set the blending mode for this layer to “Soft light". This is our base texture.

11. Another skin texture

Duplicate the skin texture layer and name it " Texture Skin Large" and then go to Edit > Transform and in the options bar at the top of the program window, set the width and height to 200%.

12. Texture Masking

Now we need to mask this texture. Hold down the Alt / Opt key and click on the “ Add a layer mask" to add a layer mask filled with black. Do this for both layers of leather texture. Activate the Brush tool ( B), set the brush opacity to 10% and carefully paint white on the areas where you want the texture to show.

Start with a layer with a finer texture, and when you're done, paint over the areas of the layer mask with a larger texture where you want it to appear. This is very painstaking face retouching in Photoshop. Have time and patience. Remove white areas where the texture looks flat or unnatural.

13. Other spots

At this point we will create a layer for the spots and correct anything that we can visually determine. Create a new layer and name it “ Blemishes" Select the tool " Healing brush» ( J), set the sample to "Active and below". Using a small brush, start removing any tiny spots that you see.

14. Eyebrow retouching

Start by merging all the layers into a new layer. Then use the Lasso tool ( L) to create two selection areas above the eyebrows where you want to trim them. Then use the arrow key to move these two selection areas up. To move the selection this way, the Lasso tool must be active. Go to Select > Modify > Feather and feather the edges of the selection by 5 pixels.

15. Eyebrow trimming

Press Cmd/Ctrl + J to create a new layer from the selected areas, and then switch to the Move tool ( V) and move the layer down until you trim the eyebrows as shown in the example above retouching photos in Photoshop.

16. Concealing eyebrows

The skin above the eyebrows does not look very natural because the edges of the eyebrows are visible. Add to the layer “ Eyebrow Trim” layer mask as shown above and paint over the skin above the eyebrows to bring out the edges. I used a medium sized soft brush to paint in black and cover up what I wanted.

17. Cleaning the eyes

Create a new layer, name it “ Eye Blemishes” and zoom in to zoom in on the eye areas. Using the Stamp tool ( S) sketch the veins inside the eyeball. I set for example " Cloning stamp"sample "Active and below", and then with a small brush I began to select samples of clean areas of the eyeball and sketch the spots with them.

18. Eye brightening

Add a “Curves” adjustment layer ( Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves), set this layer's blending mode to " Lightening the base" and fill the mask with black. Select the Brush tool ( B), set the brush opacity to 10% and carefully paint in the highlights in the eyes to make them lighter, and also paint in the retina around the iris to increase the “roundness” of the eyeball.

I also painted in areas on the lips where there would also be highlights to increase the shine of the lips and improve their shape during portrait retouching in Photoshop.

19. Darkening the eyes

Create another adjustment layer “Curves" and set its blending mode to " Darkening the base" Fill the adjustment layer mask with black. Fill in the edges of the eyes to make them look more rounded. Draw a little around the iris to separate it more clearly from the retina. I also went over the brows to darken them and around the eyes to make them pop.

In addition, I sketched the areas below the lower lip, as well as the fold between the lips, as if the model’s mouth was slightly open. When darkening, be very careful and careful. If you don't like an effect you've created, paint over it with black to completely mask it.

20. Juiciness adjustment

Small areas of blue tint are observed on the retina. Let's reduce the overall richness of the whites of the eyes by adding a "Lucidity" adjustment layer ( Layers > New Adjustment Layer > Juiciness) and reducing “Juicity" to -50. After that, fill the adjustment layer mask with black. Using the Brush Tool (B), opacity about 65%, paint over the whites of the eyes.

21. Making the iris brighter

For further skin retouching in Photoshop create two new layers, name them " Brighters" And " Darkers"and select the "Brush" tool ( B), opacity - 100%. I use a hard brush ( 2 pixels in size) white. I will paint over the layer with this brush " Brighters". I painted little dots of light where I see light areas on the iris.

Hide this layer by clicking on the little eye icon and do the same for the " Darkers“, but paint over the dark areas in it with black. Now make both layers visible and set their blending mode to " Overlap" Reduce layer opacity " Darkers"up to 20%, and " Brighters» up to 40%.

22. Lightening and darkening the skin

We've smoothed out most of the dark and light areas, and this will allow us to restore the shadows and highlights exactly where we want them, and give them the intensity and size we want. Create a new layer, go to Edit > Fill and set the layer fill to 50% gray. Name this layer “ D&B-01" Set this layer's blending mode to Soft Light so that the gray color disappears.

23. Now it's time to do the dodging and burning.

Select the Burner tool ( O), in the options bar at the top of the program window, set “Range” to “Mid Tones” and “Exposure” to 25%. First we will darken the dark areas, and then experiment with the light ones.

At this stage retouching photos in Photoshop I want to cover all the places where the hair touches the skin and also add depth to all the indentations ( around the eyes, on both sides of the nose, under the lips, etc.). In the second screenshot, I set the dodge/burn layer to Normal so you can see what I did.

24. Lightening and changing the shape of light areas

Now switch to the Dodge tool ( O) (located below the Burner tool) and in the options bar at the top of the program window, set “Range” to “Mid Tones” and “Exposure” to 25%. I'll try to increase the intensity of the highlights while maintaining a smooth transition to the tones around them.
