The cold weather is coming, which means it’s time to pick up a crochet hook and start knitting warm, soft, pleasant to wear things: bright hats, scarves, cute suits and, of course, adorable booties!

In this article we will tell you how to quickly and easily create original shoes for your baby with your own hands. We will also present diagrams and describe the features of making “Crocodiles” booties. The master class is suitable for beginner needlewomen! We hope you will be satisfied with the work done.

First stage of work: preparatory

So, in order to knit autumn booties “Crocodiles”, first of all you will need to prepare the necessary tools, including: a hook, markers, scissors. You will also need yarn. It is advisable to purchase a special one for babies, for example, merino. It is very soft, delicate, durable and not at all prickly. In addition to merino, alpaca wool can be used to make children's clothes. It is not advisable to choose yarn made from polyamide or with the addition of lurex.

As for color, the Crocodile booties will look great in any color scheme, but fancy multi-colored yarn will give them special beauty. You will also need 6 beautiful children's buttons (medium size) for fastening. Having prepared everything necessary, we decide on the dimensions of the future product. The length of the sole is:

  • for babies from birth to 3 months - from 6 to 8 cm;
  • from 3 months to six months - from 8 to 10 cm;
  • from 6 months to a year - from 10 to 12 cm.

Second stage: design of the sole

We begin making crocodile booties by crocheting the soles. We will work according to the scheme presented below.

We begin knitting by creating a chain of fifteen air loops (for a 10-centimeter sole). Your quantity may be different, depending on the required size. We knit the first row as follows: we skip two air loops, and in the third we make a single crochet (SC). In the next 6 loops of the base we also knit one sc. Next, we make 5 double crochet stitches, and in the initial loop of the chain we perform 8 C1H, thereby forming a rounded shape of the sole. We turn the knitting, again perform 5 C1H, one in the base loops, and then 6 RLS. Add 3 single crochets to the last stitch of the row and finish with a connecting loop. We get a workpiece with rounded ends. We continue to knit the second, third and so on rows, according to the pattern. We make the necessary increases in the toe and heel. As a result, we get the sole of the bootie. By analogy with the first we make the second part.

Third stage: continue knitting

To decorate the sides of the booties, we make five rows. We knit the first one completely with single crochets, not forgetting to make a lifting loop at the beginning of the row and a connecting loop at the end. From the second to the fifth row we knit with an elastic pattern. This way the product will fit well on the leg and be comfortable to put on. At the beginning of the row we always make 2 chain stitches, then knit with relief stitches with one crochet, alternating knit and purl stitches. Relief columns are made behind the leg of the column of the previous row. Important: the last column must be different from the first in the row, otherwise the pattern will shift. If the column turns out the same, start the next row with a different column.

Stage four: decorating the toes

After completing 5 rows of the sidewalls of the Crocodile booties, we begin knitting the toe. To do this we will make reductions. We create the markings: fold the workpiece in the center of the sole, and then in half again. Mark the fold points with markers. The first row of the toe: first we knit with relief stitches to the marker, alternating the purl with the front one, then - only with the front stitches until the next marker. After marking, we work as usual and finish with a connecting loop. We knit the second row of the toe again up to the marker, alternating stitches. Now we make cuts: we make a yarn over, insert a hook between the loops of the column, and grab the thread. We knit the first two loops. Yarn over again, insert the hook, grab and knit the first two loops. We combine the resulting 3 loops on the hook into one. The reduction has been made.

Thus, we carry out reductions to the column marked with a marker. After it, we continue to knit until the end of the row as usual, alternating stitches. Third row: up to the first marker we change stitches, and knit the toe area without making any decreases. Fourth row: we knit up to the marker, changing the relief columns. Then we knit 2 knit stitches together, making cuts. After the second marker, we finish the row as usual. That's it, the toe is ready. By analogy with the first, we design the second shoe.

Fifth stage of work: designing the upper part of the “Crocodiles” booties

We make the markings again. Fold the booties lengthwise and then in half. We mark the place of the fold on the outside, where the buttons will later be. We do the same with the second bootie. Insert the hook in the place of the marker and work a single crochet into each loop of the base. We knit the right bootie towards the heel, the left one towards the toe. We knit the upper part of the “Crocodiles” booties to the desired height; the pattern diagram is presented below.

We fasten the threads and trim off the excess. Sew on the buttons. That's all, the Crocodile booties are ready.

The product must be washed and steamed before use. We hope you enjoyed our master class. Good luck and creative success!

Booties, crocheted or knitted, are now an integral part of a baby's first wardrobe. Their main function is to gently warm little feet without causing discomfort. The first shoes for a child, knitted with your own hands, can be not only practical, but also very beautiful. In this article we will tell you how to crochet a very original, unusual model, namely, crocodile booties: a step-by-step selection of knitting videos and detailed step-by-step instructions are presented below.

Knitting crocodile booties: video of knitting and patterns used

For clarity, we suggest watching a video with detailed instructions on knitting “scales” and “embossed columns” patterns, as well as step-by-step master classes on creating “crocodile” booties.

Crocodile booties are knitted quite simply, and the pattern turns out to be very interesting and original. To knit them, it is recommended to use special children's yarn, which is particularly soft and safe in composition.

This model will look impressive, even if it is made in one color. However, in this matter you can show your imagination and use several shades of yarn.

For example, alternating stripes with “scales” on cuffs made with yarn of contrasting colors looks beautiful.

Another interesting color scheme for such a model is the use of sectionally dyed yarn with a smooth transition from one color to another.

Or the main part of the booties can be knitted in one color, and the cuff in a second.

Once the yarn and its color have been selected, you can begin knitting booties.

How to crochet crocodile booties correctly and quickly?

These interesting booties got their name from the original cuff made with a “scale” pattern. These boots are ideal for walking on cool summer evenings, as well as on warm autumn days. They will also be comfortable as house shoes.

To knit them you will need a hook number 3 and baby yarn (about 50g), buttons for fastening.

Sole.

Knitting the product begins with the sole. We collect a chain of 14 air loops, then knit according to the pattern presented below.
Depending on the age of the child and the size of his foot, if necessary, we increase the number of rows when knitting the sole. We carry out two such preparations at once.

Side and toe.

We continue knitting in the circle with embossed stitches (see diagram below), in total, to lift, you need to complete 4 rows with this pattern.

Now let's move on to shaping the toe. To do this, we find a central loop on its side, count 9 loops in both directions from it, and mark these points with markers. We continue to knit in a circle, on the selected 18 loops we perform the following:

1st row: knit two stitches together, 9 loops remain;

2nd row: again in this part of the work we knit 2 stitches together, 5 loops remain;

Row 3: knit all 5 remaining stitches together.

Cuff.

The cuff in these booties will be on the clasps in the middle of the side. Mark this place with a marker and knit to it with connecting posts. We knit further in straight and reverse rows.

We cast on a chain of 8 chain stitches and knit it back with connecting stitches. We continue knitting with the “scales” pattern.

Description of the “scales” pattern:

1st row: 3 chain stitches for lifting, 1 chain stitch, *1 double crochet, 1 chain crochet, 2 double crochets, 1 chain loop* - repeat ** until the end of the row.

2nd row: we knit “scales” on groups of two columns, for this we cast on 3 chain stitches, yarn over the hook and insert it between the two columns of the bottom row, wrap it behind the leg of the first column, knit 4 double crochets. We knit 1 chain stitch, yarn over the hook, wrap it around the leg of the second stitch, and knit 5 double crochets from there. We also knit the second “scale” from the next group of two stitches (5dc from the base of one, ch, 5dc from the base of the second), by analogy we knit to the end of the row.

3rd row: 3 chain stitches for lifting, 1 chain stitch, 2 double crochets from the center of the “scale”, *1 ch, 1 double crochet from the bottom row, 1 chain crochet, 2 double crochets from the center of the “scale”*, repeat ** to the end row.

Row 4: knit “scales” as in the second row.

We knit a total of 8 rows of the pattern (of which 4 are rows of “scales”).

We finish knitting with a row of single crochets in each loop. We cut the thread and hide the tail.

Assembly.

Sew two buttons for fastening to the cuff.

We knit the second bootie in the same way as the first one, and fasten it on the other side.

7-8 cm along the inner insole.

You will need:

  • Yarn: for the master class I used Sofit yarn (45% wool (laster), 55% silk (artificial), 380 m/100g) in two plies. Yarn with a meter of 250-300 m per 100 grams is also suitable.
  • Hook No. 2.5
  • 6 buttons

We knit the sole according to the following pattern.

We tie the sole 54 tbsp. without n.

We get:

We break the thread and attach it in the middle of the heel.

From the next row we begin to form an elastic band pattern with crochet. Alternating convex and concave double crochets. The top three images are a convex column, the bottom three are a concave column.

For a convex column, we make a yarn over, bring the hook in from the front side under the column of the previous row, and from the same front side we grab the working thread, pull it out and knit it as usual.

For a concave column, we make a yarn over, insert the hook from the wrong side, grab the thread from the same wrong side and knit it as usual. s n.

In this way we knit three more rows.

We get this boat.

To do this, count 24 loops in the center, approximately from the place where the increase was made on the sole.

We also knit the fifth row, alternating convex and concave double crochets, and knit the central 24 stitches two together.

Thus, 12 loops are formed in the center.

In the next, sixth row, we knit these central 12 loops in two with convex columns, i.e. insert the hook from the front side first under the first two columns of the previous row,

We pull out the working thread, knit a stitch with a stitch. not completely

Then we insert the hook under the next two columns of the previous row, grab the thread, and do not knit it completely. And then we knit two stitches together.

This results in six loops in the center.

In the seventh row, we knit the central seven loops together with convex columns. Thus, there should be 6 untied stitches on the hook. s n.

We knit them all together and get one:

We tie the row to the end.

The right one differs from the left one in the formation of a strap with loops.

For the left boot, we use connecting stitches almost to the middle and knit 8 chain stitches. +1v. lifting point, and knit these 8 loops back with connecting posts.

We connect with the boot and knit the first row according to the pattern: 3 ch. rise, 2 ch, skip two loops, 2 tbsp. s n. in the next two loops, ch 2, skip two loops, 1 st. s n. next loop, etc. according to the pattern, knitting and loops of the strap.

Let's finish !NECESSARILY! two tbsp. s n. Because this will be the first buttonhole. We get:

Scheme of "scales"

We knit 5 tbsp. s n. perpendicular to the first st. with n., inserting a hook between two posts.

Having reached the end of the row, turn the knitting and knit another row: 3 ch. rise, *2 vp, 2 tbsp. with n., 2 v.p., 1 tbsp. with n.* Only now in the arch of two columns of the previous row we knit 1 tbsp., and where there was 1 tbsp. s n. - knit 2 tbsp. s n.

Next row we knit “scales”.

There should be a total of 5 rows of scales.

For the strap with eyelets of the right boot, we knit the connecting posts a little further than the middle. Next 8 ch.

We knit the first row: 3 ch. lifting (replaces 1 tbsp. with n.), 1 tbsp. with n., *2 v.p., 1 treble with n., 2 v.p., 2 tbsp. with n.* to the end of the row.

!Attention! Here, on the contrary, we start with two tbsp. with n., because this will be the first buttonhole. It is advisable to finish 1 tbsp. s n.

After five rows of “scales” we get:

We do not break the thread, but tie the top with a “crawfish step”.

We break and hide the thread.

All that remains is to sew on the buttons.

And finally, a photo shoot of the finished product:
