Ghost of the White Lady exists in almost all European countries. The first mentions of it date back to the XIV-XV centuries. Residents of Germany saw it most often, but other Europeans were also “lucky.”

If you happen to visit a medieval castle Rožmberk not far from the Czech town of Rozmberk nad Vltavou, you will definitely hear from local guides the old story about the White Lady - the ghost of Perchta Rozmberk, the unfortunate daughter of the owner of the castle, who has not left her “residence” for five centuries.

Rožmberk Castle was built back in the first half of the 13th century by Vitek from Prcice, a member of the powerful noble family of Vitkovic. The first written mention of the castle dates back to 1250. It rises on a hill in a bend of the Vltava, in the middle of an unusually picturesque mountainous area.

The castle changed owners many times; in 1420, Aldridge II was forced to mortgage the estate in order to obtain funds to fight the Hussites. After some time, Aldridge managed to repay his debts and get the castle at his disposal, but his affairs still went neither shaky nor smooth. Aldridge had great hopes for his daughter Perkhta, who was born in 1429.

When she turned 20, her father found her a good groom - the Moravian nobleman Jan Lichtenstein. The father-in-law relied on his son-in-law's political connections at the royal court. The groom, in turn, relied on the bride's large dowry. However, the hopes of both sides were not realized. Aldridge was deeply in debt, and Ian did not want to patronize his stingy father-in-law at court.

The groom poured out his irritation and anger on Perkhta. His relatives treated the young woman no better. The entire Czech kingdom knew about her deplorable situation in her husband’s family. Nevertheless, the couple lived together for almost a quarter of a century.

According to legend, before his death, Jan asked his wife for forgiveness for mistreating her, but she did not forgive him. And then he cursed his wife, promising that even in the next world she would have no peace. Perkhta died in May 1476. Less than six months later, she began to appear at Rožmberk Castle in a white dress.

The white lady had some special feeling for all newborns. As soon as another baby appeared in the castle, the ghost would certainly visit him. It did not cause any trouble for the children. The nannies and nurses knew about this and were not afraid when the White Lady rocked the baby in the cradle.

But one day they hired a new nanny from afar; she had never heard of the White Lady. When she saw a lady in white clothes bending over the crib of the newborn Peter Rozmberk, she began to scream throughout the castle. The white lady pointed at the wall and disappeared as if she had never existed.

According to legend, when Peter Rožmberk grew up and heard about the lady’s visit, he ordered that very wall to be dismantled. It turned out that a large treasure was hidden in it. In 1601, Peter sold the castle, and since then it has passed from hand to hand.

During the Great Patriotic War, the castle housed a school for the Nazi girls' organization "Bund Deutsche Madel". Every morning the girls raised a flag with a swastika over the tower. It seems that the White Lady was not delighted with this and decided to show who is boss.

For seven centuries, a white flag with the emblem of Rožmberki - a red five-petalled rose - flew over the tower. When the German women climbed the tower early in the morning, the White Lady threatened them with her finger.

The girls dropped the flag out of fear and ran screaming to the boss. She ordered a search of the tower, thinking that Czech partisans were hiding there. The searches yielded nothing.

Portrait of Perchta Rozmberk (life years around 1429 - 1476). According to legend, her soul will be freed by the one who can decipher the mysterious inscription on the portrait. As a reward to the savior, the lady will indicate where the treasure is kept.

The last time the White Lady appeared in Rožmberk was in 1996. The castle was being restored, and a worker noticed a lady in white walk outside the window.

According to legend, the White Lady will leave the castle forever when people are able to decipher the mysterious inscription on her portrait. At the same time, the inscription will indicate the location of the new treasure. So far no such experts have been found.

HEAVENLY THRONE

Not far from Baden-Württemberg, a picturesque hill topped by an ancient castle rises above the Zollern River Hohenzollern. It is called the castle in the clouds. Indeed, he seems to be floating in the sky. The castle itself offers magnificent views of the surrounding area. Its history is closely connected with the Hohenzollern dynasty, which ruled Prussia until 1918.

The King of Prussia, Frederick William IV, also found his final refuge here. The famous crown of William II is also kept here. Today the castle is a popular tourist attraction. Tourists examine the exhibits of the palace and dream of seeing with their own eyes the White Lady - the ghost of Hohenzollern.

She always terrified the locals - she had the worst reputation.

In the 14th century, Countess Irene of Orlamund was widowed and decided to remarry Albrecht of Nuremberg, nicknamed the Handsome, a representative of the Franconian branch of the Hohenzollerns. Irene was almost 20 years older than Albrecht, so the young man was very doubtful whether he should walk her down the aisle.

In addition, she had two children from a previous marriage, and this frightened the potential groom even more. But the more Albrecht resisted, the more persistent the “young woman” was. To remove all obstacles to marriage, she resorted to extreme measures - she ordered the murder of her two children. When rumors of this reached Albrecht's ears, he rejected the murderer.

Then Irene had no choice but to forget about her lover. Wanting to atone for her sin, she founded and headed a Cistercian monastery called the Heavenly Throne. Due to her rank, she had to wear a white robe. And after the death of the Countess, she began to appear to the Hohenzollerns in the form of a ghost. His appearance in the castle foreshadowed trouble for the owners - a serious illness or death.

According to ancient chronicles, the White Lady first appeared in the castle in 1619. A day later, King Johann Sigismund died.

There is a secret passage in the fortress wall of the Hohenzollern castle. Through it, weapons and food were delivered to the besieged castle, and through it, in case of danger, one could escape. During the next siege, the beloved of the knight Friedrich von Ettinger tried to smuggle gunpowder and food into the fortress. But her appearance caused panic among the besieged: the girl was dressed in white, and she was mistaken for the White Lady - the family ghost of the Hohenzollerns.

On August 4, 1786, the Prussian King Frederick the Great and his servant saw the ghost of the White Lady at the fireplace. A few days later the king died. In 1806, after her next visit, the Prussian Prince Ludwig died in a battle with the French.

The White Lady is generally one of the most dangerous ghosts. So, in 1867, a similar ghost was seen in Schönbrunn Castle, the residence of the Habsburgs, before the tragic death of Archduke Maximilian. The same thing happened shortly before the assassination of the Austrian Empress Elisabeth in the fall of 1898.

In June 1914, the White Lady showed up at the Imperial Palace in Berlin. Very soon the whole world learned about the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, which served as the reason for the outbreak of the First World War.

BLACKED UP, DEMONS

Estonians also have their own White Lady. The small coastal town of Haapsalu, famous for its spa centers and sandy beaches, attracts tourists like a magnet. Many are surprised to learn that a ghost lives in Haapsalu Cathedral.

They say that if you are lucky, you can see it in the window of the castle. Most often, the White Lady comes there in August, usually at midnight. In the light of the full moon, a silhouette suddenly stands out clearly in the round window of the chapel on the southern wall of the Dome Church. There is a legend about who this woman is and why she has been shown in the chapel window for centuries.

In the Middle Ages, priests were required to remain celibate, according to the monastery charter. Women were prohibited from entering the bishop's castle on pain of death. But it so happened that one young canon fell in love with a girl.

The young couple could not part, so he dressed her in men's clothing and brought her to the castle as a choir member. For a long time this remained a secret. When the deception was revealed, the bishop's sentence was harsh: the canon was imprisoned in the dungeon of the castle, where he died of hunger, and the girl was walled up alive in the wall of the chapel that was then under construction.

Ksenia SVETLOVA

Slave from Myrtle Plantation

According to legend, there once lived a slave named Chloe in one of the American mansions. The woman had a bad habit of spying and eavesdropping through the keyhole on all the inhabitants of the mansion. But one day her owner caught her doing this and cut off one of her ears as punishment. As a result, the unfortunate woman was forced to constantly wear a green scarf to hide her wound. But the punishment did not bring Chloe to reason, on the contrary. She decided to take revenge on her master and baked a cake for him, in which she put poisonous oleander leaves. Only the owner never got a chance to try the poisoned food - his two daughters and wife beat him to it. As a result of terrible torture, the women died.

Mansion on Myrtle Plantation (USA, Louisiana, St. Francisville)

The master's wrath fell on his slaves, who quickly identified the culprit and hanged Chloe that same day. History has reached us in the form of vague legends and old photographs. However, it is not only Chloe who appears at the local plantation. In the mirrors of the mansion, they say, one of the girls she killed is displayed - the ghost sends curses to anyone who dares to spend the night in her room.

Today, the local mansion is one of the most famous places for those who dare to touch the other world.

The Girl from the Resurrection Cemetery

Mary's ghost asks for a ride, but disappears without a trace near the cemetery

In the American state of Illinois, in the town of Justice, people often encounter the mysterious ghost of a blue-eyed, blonde-haired woman voting on the side of the road. The ghost is dressed in a white dress and calls herself Mary. They say that she asks for a ride, but near the Resurrection Cemetery she disappears without a trace.

The legend about this girl has existed for about 80 years; it is curious that Mary is encountered not only by those who know about her, but also by complete strangers. So, in 1973, one of the taxi drivers complained that he picked up a girl on the side of the road who asked for a ride, and near the cemetery she mysteriously disappeared without paying. When the man was asked to name the signs of his companion, he accurately described Mary, known throughout the area.

Ghost ship

This ghost is known to all sailors. The Flying Dutchman launched in 1641. It was this year that the captain of the East India Company ship, Hendrik Van der Decken, decided to go around the Cape of Good Hope on a bet during a terrible storm, even if it cost him his life. Since then, no one has seen the ship, but not far from the cape they began to see the ghost of the ship. At the same time, he appeared so close to the sides that it seemed that a collision was inevitable.

However, the ghost soon disappeared into the fog that always accompanied him. The Flying Dutchman had many eyewitnesses, but the most famous of them was King George V of England, who even noted in his diary a meeting with a mysterious ghost. The monarch wrote that first he saw a mystical red light, then the outlines of a brig, with sails and masts, gradually began to emerge from the fog. Soon the ghost disappeared into the haze, and the sailor who was the first to notice the “Dutchman” fell from the mast and died.

The Ghost of Anne Boleyn

The ghost of Anne Boleyn can be found in churches and castles in London

The second wife of the English king Henry VIII managed to stay on the throne for only three years, which, however, was enough to give birth to the future Queen Elizabeth I. Her Majesty was executed in 1536 on terrible charges of witchcraft and incest, but today historians come to the conclusion that that she was simply slandered by envious people.

Since then, the ghost of Queen Anne can often be found in ancient churches and castles in London. Eyewitnesses say that they met a beautiful woman in luxurious outfits. However, some see a completely different picture - Anne Boleyn is seen as a headless corpse.

Kate from Coronado

In California, there is the city of Coronado, which has the Victorian-style Hotel Coronado. One day, Kate Morgan moved in, a pleasant woman who nevertheless looked tired and sick. Rumors immediately spread throughout the small town that the guest was trying to get rid of an unwanted child by overdose of quinine. Kate was soon found shot dead on the path leading to the sea.

Next to her lay the pistol with which she shot herself. It became clear that the poor woman was so exhausted nervously and physically that she had no choice but to commit suicide. However, the accident left a mystical imprint on the hotel - strange things began to happen there. Guests complained that someone began to constantly wander through the corridors and slam doors. Later, some people in the hotel even saw the ghost of a woman wandering around the hotel.

The Stanley Hotel and its ghosts

The Stanley Hotel was made famous by Stephen King in his novel The Shining.

This place was made famous by Stephen King in his famous novel The Shining and later in the film of the same name. The hotel is located in Estes Park, Colorado. I must say that the hotel is so grateful to the writer for the powerful advertising that the same film is constantly shown on Channel 42, it’s not hard to guess which one. And there are actually ghosts here. Guests complain that there is always someone making noise and walking around in the halls, but they are usually empty.

You can often hear the noise of children playing in the corridors, although there is no one there. But most often ghosts visit room 407, where the main ghost appears - Lord Dunravin. It was he who at one time owned the land on which the hotel was built. They say that it is the lord who steals the guests’ valuables; any incomprehensible noise is most often attributed to this ghost. So, whether you like it or not, the Stanley Hotel lives its own life, full of mystical ghosts.

The Ghost of Rayham Hall

Another name for this ghost is "Brown Lady", as he is wearing a classic brown dress. The ghost was even captured on film in 1936 by the owners of the English house Rayham Hall. It is unclear who exactly this woman is, but it is believed that she is Dorothy, the sister of Robert Walpole and the former wife of the Marquess of Townshend. At the age of 26, she married the hero of her childhood love, who by that time turned out to be a widower.

According to legend, Townshend found out that Dorothy had been cheating on him with Lord Wharton, and locked her in his own rooms. Soon she died under unknown circumstances; it is obvious that her death was somehow connected with this house. There are many testimonies about the meeting with the “brown lady”. The most famous were the memoirs of George IV, who was then regent.

George IV recalled meeting the ghost of the “brown lady”

At the beginning of the 19th century, he spent the night in Rayham Hall and woke up at night, seeing a pale woman with disheveled hair standing next to the bed. Another famous incident was an encounter with the ghost of Colonel Loftus in 1835. He celebrated Christmas in the Hall and suddenly saw a ghost at night. The soldier chased him, but the ghost ran down the stairs and disappeared. The next night, a new meeting took place - Loftus met the “brown lady” on the stairs, the ghost was carrying a lamp. The Colonel recalls that the woman was dressed in luxurious brocade, and her hair was hidden in a cap. At the same time, the eye sockets were dark and empty. Loftus remembered this meeting so well that he even sketched a mysterious ghost.

The next famous encounter with a ghost was told by writer Frederick Marryat. One night he, and two members of the Townshend family, encountered the "brown lady". The writer was not taken aback and shot at her point-blank, claiming that the bullet went through the ghost. She was later found in the door behind where the ghost was. After this, the ghost was not heard of until 1920, and in 1936, while filming Reich Hall, they managed to film the “brown lady.” The photo became a sensation, and experts who examined it could not find any signs of fakery. Since then, the ghost began to appear in the house much less often.

Clifton Hall

Today the mansion is worth three million pounds and is for sale. The hall was built back in the eleventh century and is located in Nottinghamshire, England. The building was passed down from generation to generation of the Clifton family. In 1958 they decided to sell the house. It was first purchased by a wealthy man from Dubai, Anwar Rashid, but after just eight months he fled his new home with his wife and four children. The reason for this was the mortal fear of the ghosts that inhabited the house.

From the first days of living there, someone constantly knocked on the door and asked who was at home. At the same time, there was no one in front of the door. The most terrible events happened one Sunday. Anwar's wife decided to prepare food for the child in one of the lower rooms. There she found her daughter watching TV. The woman called out to her daughter several times, but received no response. Then she went upstairs and found the child sleeping peacefully in his bed.

White lady

The White Lady is a collective name for ghosts. As a rule, eyewitnesses describe long-haired women in a white dress, with dark sad eyes and a thin, pointed face. Sometimes they also talk about bloody hands and face, and Mikhail Rosenberg, during his trip to the Czech Republic, saw a Lady wearing black gloves.

Perchta Rozmberk (lived around 1429 - 1476), portrait with a mysterious signature

This ghost is one of the most famous in the world. According to legend, the Czech White Lady is none other than Perchta Rozmberk, who is considered the guardian of the Rozmberk family and families close to it. Her story could have happened to any noble young woman who lived in the Middle Ages: young Perchta was forcibly married to a man much older than herself, the aristocrat Jan Lichtenstein. He turned out to be a villain, a pervert and a sadist, often raped and beat his young wife, and also, not embarrassed by her presence, organized orgies in the castle. The unfortunate woman endured bullying for 20 years, because the morals of that era did not allow her to leave her despot husband and return to her family, and the church would not give permission for a divorce.

The White Lady will give a treasure to the one who reads the caption to the portrait

They say that before his death, Count Liechtenstein asked his wife for forgiveness, but she could not forgive him. Then the count cursed his wife with the words: “May you have no peace after death!”

Since then, Perchta has appeared in the former possessions of the Rožmberks: the old castle of Sovinec and the nearby town of Cesky Krumlov. It does not harm anyone, but for the descendants of the family it can mean a warning about the imminent death of one of the relatives. Her portrait with a signature in an unknown language has survived to this day. There is a legend that the White Lady in person will appear to anyone who can decipher the signature and tell where the huge treasure is hidden.

Lady from Echt

The lady from Echt can be found in Holland. The ghost is not tied to any specific place and can appear anywhere. The lady from Echt looks quite impressive: a torn dark dress, a thin cloak thrown over her shoulders, her head lying in thin, emaciated hands, and blood oozing from the stump of her neck. However, this ghost is quite harmless for the casual traveler.

You can meet the Lady, as usual, only at night. In some cases, the headless female figure may simply walk by, and in others, it may stop in front of the person and speak to him. If for some reason a strange ghost likes you, it will take you to the place where the treasure is buried, but will ask you not to take a single coin for yourself, but to distribute everything to those in need. If the one who received the treasure does not fulfill this condition, then the gold coins found and appropriated by him will turn to dust.

The lady from Echt is dressed in a torn dress, she holds her head in her hands

One day the Lady from Echt met a young man on the road returning home at night. She showed him the place where the treasure was buried and said that he could take it for himself if only he dug up the treasure without making a sound. But the stupid young man, seeing a chest full of gold, could not resist a joyful cry, after which both the chest and the ghost literally fell through the ground. Since then, no one has seen the headless ghost. Apparently, the Lady finally became disillusioned with people and left for another world.

Black Lady of Nesvizh Castle

The Black Lady is the ghost of Barbara Radziwill, a representative of one of the most noble families of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Previously, she could be found in one of the rooms of her family nest - Nesvizh Castle. The ghost looked like a beautiful blond woman with sad brown eyes in a rich black dress and pearls on her slender neck.

It so happened that, while still alive, the young and beautiful princess met the heir to the Polish crown, Sigismund Augustus. As usual, passion arose between the young people, they became lovers and eventually got married secretly. Soon after this, Sigismund's first wife Augusta died of epilepsy, and Barbara was presented to the court as the king's legal wife. Unfortunately, Queen Mother Bona Sforza hated all the offspring of the Radziwill family, and therefore Barbara was soon poisoned on her orders and died in terrible agony. They did not bury her in the tomb of the Polish kings, but took her body to her native castle.

Oddly enough, this is perhaps the only ghost whose origin can be explained by anything other than the rich imagination of the people who saw it. Barbara, for example, was seen by many people during a spiritualistic seance arranged for the inconsolable king by the famous “magician and spellcaster” of that time, Pan Tvardovsky. He summoned the spirit of the deceased queen using the so-called magic mirror, having previously agreed with the king that he would not try to touch his wife. Of course, the king could not stand it, tried to hug her, and she disappeared with a loud ringing sound. The secret of its appearance lies in the mirror that Pan Tvardovsky, who left Nesvizh Castle in a hurry, left there. Behind a thin layer of amalgam is engraved the appearance of Barbara, exactly as she was in life. If the light hits the mirror at a certain angle, then a ghost appears in the room.

Ghost Town

Near Chelyabinsk there is the Arkaim fortress, which is also called the “Russian Stonehenge”. Scientists, in addition to buildings and street ruins, discovered wells, remains of metallurgical furnaces, water supply systems, and mines. The inhabitants left Arkaim almost four thousand years ago, but before leaving, they set their city on fire. It is believed that they had serious reasons for this.

Tourists on Mount Shamanka often see moving shadows

People who have visited Arkaim talk about the ghosts that live there. Tourists on Mount Shamanke often see moving shadows. Once, during an excavation, an archeology student heard a voice calling her to the excavation center. The girl went there alone. Upon returning, the student cried for a long time, talking about the ghosts of the ancient inhabitants of the city of Arkaim.

Sukharev Tower

A famous place in Moscow is the Sukharev Tower. There the engineer, astrologer and alchemist Jacob Bruce, who lived during the time of Peter I, spent all his nights. According to legend, he kept there the famous “Black Book”, written by the Prince of Darkness himself. This book terrified the townspeople.

Sukharev Tower - the place where the ancient spirits of ancient Moscow lived Even after the death of the famous alchemist, the light in the Sukharev Tower continued to light up every night. In 1934, the warlock's tower was demolished, but the ghost of a dry old man appears quite often in that place.

Misers with Myasnitskaya

In Moscow, on Chistye Prudy there is Myasnitskaya Street. The Kusovnikovs' house once stood on it. The couple were famous for the fact that, despite all their wealth, they were misers and misers. They never invited guests or gave gifts to anyone. Getting ready for a long trip, the husband and wife decided to hide all the treasures in the fireplace.

After their departure, the unsuspecting servant lit a fire in the fireplace. As a result, the wealth burned completely. Upon learning this news, the wife died immediately. With the words “Oh, my money, my money,” the ghost of the old man still haunts the nearby alleys to this day.

Many noble families of Europe can boast of stories about the ghost of the White Lady. Many stories have been told about the appearance of the Woman in White in the castles of the Czech Republic, Germany, and France. I decided to make a selection of the most famous legends. The first story is about the White Lady from the Czech Republic. (Among the illustrations my photos of the town of Cesky Krumlov).

From the notes of Nikolai Verbin, 189*
This happened during my trip to Poland. The weather suddenly deteriorated sharply, the road to the nearest town remained long, and I decided to stay at a roadside hotel. I was not mistaken, a blizzard soon arrived. It was already evening when I settled into my room. Suddenly the door of my room opened slightly due to a draft. When I went up to close it, to my surprise I saw on the stairs the white silhouette of a female figure, which, slowly going downstairs, disappeared into the darkness of the hallway.

Thoughts flashed through my head: “I hope I’m not falling into madness? Did I really see a ghost?” It is curious that the mysterious figure did not cause me fear or any other unpleasant sensation that people who saw ghosts mentioned. Having settled down at the table, I tried to read in order to drive away obsessive thoughts. I couldn't concentrate on reading. In the shadows of the candle I began to imagine all sorts of devilish things, and the howling of the storm outside the window only intensified my excitement. I decided to go down to the living room, hoping to find company for conversation.

White Lady of the Rožmberk family
In the living room I met the military man Michael von Rosemberg, about whose noble family I had heard a lot (he descended from the wealthy Czech aristocrats of the Rožmberks). Mikhail was smoking a pipe, sitting in a chair at the coffee table. The captain's face looked thoughtful. Not afraid to seem crazy, I told him about my recent vision.
- And have you seen the White Lady? - the interlocutor perked up.
His question gave me hope that I was not the only witness to the supernatural.
- Yes, she came down the stairs... Did she come to you? - I suddenly realized.
The interlocutor nodded.
“She was wearing black gloves,” he added sadly and thoughtfully.

Castle "Rožnberk nad Voltavou", where the ghost of the White Lady appears. 19th century drawing

Not wanting to guess what "black gloves" means. I asked my interlocutor to tell a story about the ghost of the Rožmberk family. Fortunately, the situation was conducive, the illuminated living room seemed like a special safe place, and the dark corridor seemed like a gloomy road to another world. How darkness intensifies children's fears!

Modern view of the castle, photo from the guidebook

My new friend happily began the story.
The White Lady of the Rožmberks, more often called the White Panna, usually appears in the places of the former possessions of the Rožmberks, but sometimes she comes to representatives of the clan regardless of the distance.
She is kind and does not instill fear. Although sometimes it is a sad message. If she comes wearing black gloves, it means one of the family members will die; if she wears red gloves, beware of fire. But if there is a smile on the ghostly face, it means there will be good luck.
Now I understood Mikhail’s excitement; he was clearly worried about one of his relatives. Seeing me as an understanding interlocutor, Rosemberg continued the story.

Perchta Rožmberk (lived around 1429 - 1476) - White Panna.
According to legend, her soul will be freed by the one who can decipher the mysterious inscription on the portrait.
As a reward to the savior, the lady will indicate where the treasure is kept

Curse of the Villain
Her name is associated with the sad story of the Rožmberk family of Czech nobles, which occurred during the wild Middle Ages, in the 15th century. The noble girl Perchta from the Rozhmberg family was forcibly married to the evil aristocrat Jan Lichtenstein, who had influence in the royal court. The husband turned out to be a villain and in every possible way mocked his young wife, who turned 20 in the year of her marriage. He also dared to have orgies in the castle without being ashamed of his young wife. Lichtenstein's evil sisters also humiliated their new relative.

Perkhta tried to escape from her husband, but the wild customs of that era did not allow her to return to her father's house. The unfortunate woman was forced to stay with her husband. She lived with him for more than 20 years, enduring tyranny. Before his death, her husband asked her for forgiveness, but the honest, proud wife refused to forgive the bullying. Then the scoundrel cursed Perkhta: “may you have no peace after death,” after these words his black, sinful soul fell into Hell.

Drawing in the interior of the castle, 17th century

Alas, the curse came true. After death, Perkhta's soul did not rest. She appears in a white dress with keys in her belt.

Guardian of the family
The lady was always kind to the Rožmberks. She came to nurse the children of the family and protected them from all evil. The maids knew that the lady visited the children at night, and were not afraid of her. One night, while the ghost was lulling little Peter Vokov to sleep, the nanny, recently hired, woke up. The foolish woman screamed and the White Lady slid through the wall and disappeared. She did not visit Peter again. He became the last owner of Rozmberkov Castle. Perhaps a careless servant angered the keeper of the clan.

Portrait of Peter Vokov (lived 1539-1611) as a child

Treasure of the White Panna
The matured Peter Vokov was told about his childhood meeting with the White Panna. Out of curiosity, he ordered the wall through which the ghost had passed to be broken down. A treasure was found in the wall. Since then, foolish treasure hunters have been roaming the former possessions of the Rožmberks, wanting to meet the White Lady and find out from her about the treasure. Some people think that the treasure should be looked for where the ghost disappears. You can only laugh at human stupidity.

Coins of Rožmberk

Funny case
One day, the White Panna scared a group of students staying in the castle. After drinking too much local beer, they started making stupid jokes about the ghostly mistress. One said that he was ready to hug the lady and confess his love to her. Perkhta came to teach the impudent man a lesson, who, out of his stupidity, decided to do what he was told, and tried to hug the ghost. He got off lightly; the noble lady only knocked him unconscious. They say that there are ghosts more severe to such antics, and he could not avoid madness.

White Panna in the town of Cesky Krumlov
In addition to Rozmberkov Castle, there is another favorite place for the appearance of the White Lady - the town of Cesky Krumlov. After the death of her husband, Perkhta remained in this city for the rest of her life. She was remembered by the townspeople for her kindness and mercy. When Perkhta died, the whole city mourned her. They say that the White Panna often visits her beloved town. There were stories of eyewitnesses who encountered a white figure leisurely walking along the narrow streets.

City of Cesky Krumlov, My photos are from 2005 (enlarge when clicked). Note

Rozmberkov Castle in the town of Mikulov, where the appearance of the White Panna was also noticed

The alleged narrator is Michael von Rosenberg, a military engineer who received the rank of major general (life 1861-1928). Representatives of the Rozmberk family appeared in Russian service in the 18th century under Tsarina Anna Ioannovna

A few days later I received a letter from Rosemberg in which he wrote that a close relative of theirs had died. The death of a relative occurred on the very evening when the White Panna appeared to him.

Addition to the story. The appearance of the White Lady was noticed during World War II in 1944. The Nazis set up a Nazi school for girls in the castle. One day, schoolgirls raising a fascist flag saw a ghostly woman who shook her finger at them. The frightened girls ran away, and the raised flag tore off the pole and fell to the ground. An explanation was quickly found for the incident, blaming saboteurs for everything. However, no strangers were ever found in the castle. So the ghost spoke out against fascism on her estate.

The picture is just about me :))
In summer, the castle hosts a night tour dedicated to the White Lady. No one met the ghost, but the excursion was very interesting. I hope that when I visit the Czech Republic again, I will definitely visit the White Lady.

Photo materials from the site were also used

Just recently, at the beginning of January, we moved into a new apartment - a large, three-bedroom one. And a few days later my family left for Thailand, and I was left alone at home...
...I will say briefly: I love horror films and partly believe in all this supernatural, but not if I am connected with this “something” - I have a rich imagination, anything can seem like it!..
The first five days everything was fine, I enjoyed being alone and surfing the Internet. Until one time, when I was entering my room, I imagined a man of my height standing very close to me and looking at me... I shuddered, but was not very frightened - it seemed to me in the darkness, which never happens to anyone. But I’m terribly impressionable, so after that I began to be paranoid for the rest of the time before my relatives arrived.
Evening, I’m sitting in complete silence, drawing in a notebook because I have nothing to do, next to me there’s a mirror that covers the entire wall. So I got bored and started staring at it (in the mirror) - it was still reflecting the dark corridor and the entrance to the living room... Suddenly, something coming from the living room began to move quietly.
Well, again it seemed like something else. I closed the door to my room, suddenly I heard the door creak, I opened it again and looked into the corridor - but the doors to the other rooms didn’t even budge. Another creaking sound - not a single door moves. The neighbors upstairs?.. But the sound of creaking seems to be very close!..
... Continuation of the strangeness - a silhouette in a white dress in the dark, again from the living room... I, of course, did not take it seriously, it seemed - well, it seemed only that!
Time passed, the relatives returned. I’ve completely forgotten my voice - I’m talking, and it doesn’t sound like mine. More childish and “sweet” or something...
That same night I go to bed... and suddenly the sound of something dripping! I didn’t open my eyes... After a while, the “drip!” sound again, right under my ear!... Well, well...
... And this happened last night: I was lying in bed, suddenly I turned around to face the mirror, there seemed to be a suitcase next to it, and where the suitcase was, I clearly saw something white and semi-luminous!
... After that I fell asleep and had a stupid dream: I was sitting, watching Tom and Jerry, as if I was in kindergarten and still little. There are children sitting nearby, and one of them is in a white dress... and that’s me.
P.S. Yes, yes, either I’m crazy or I made it all up, but actually only 10% maximum. I swapped some things and put them in a different order, but the facts and situations themselves are not made up... Oh, yes, fail: “something white” - there was my jacket (white, yeah), lying on the suitcase, and the silhouette that initially appeared to me – was my own reflection on the lacquered cabinet.
...The only thing that remains incomprehensible is the creaking of the door out of nowhere. And not only me, but also everyone else in the house hears it from time to time... so what is it, huh?

They climbed Elbrus. A small group who decided to conquer one of the most beautiful peaks in the world. The penultimate in the chain was a 28-year-old climber, who had conquered more than one peak. They had already reached the snowfield when the girl suddenly felt an irresistible urge to turn around...

200 meters from her stood a dazzling beauty in a shining white dress. Long hair fluttered slightly in the wind, bare feet and arms bare to the shoulders did not seem to react in any way to the piercing cold... The girl was overcome by a feeling of incredible, unearthly, stunning happiness “such happiness simply does not exist,” she later recalled. There was, however, a slight feeling of something tricky, but somewhere far away, on the periphery of consciousness, it flashed like a light haze and disappeared, as if it had never happened... Meanwhile, the woman raised her right hand and beckoned her to her.

And she went. She went, like a somnambulist, straight into the abyss. And she stopped only after calling out to her husband, who realized that his half was wandering somewhere clearly in the wrong direction. Waking up from the eclipse on the edge of the abyss, into which her legs had already begun to slide, the climber fell on her back and slowly crawled away from the edge... The moment she woke up, the girl heard her own broken cry at the bottom of the hole.

The climber was immediately expelled from the group and taken down, accompanied by a guy: the one who was dating White Woman, should no longer go to the mountains, the next ascent will result in death for him, says the unwritten law of the mountains.

...An experienced 30-year-old climber was descending from the mountain. A blizzard began, and in the clearing of the snowy swirl he suddenly saw a blond woman in white dress, sitting, hugging her knees, right in the snow. She was young and beautiful, and at the same time old and decrepit, she gave off a feeling of unearthly happiness and at the same time menacing danger... Not for a moment, according to the climber, did he lose control over himself, all the time, analyzing what was happening. True, this analysis, as it turned out, was in itself, and reality in itself. His climbing comrades suddenly saw that he had deviated from the route and went somewhere in a snowstorm... Only after a loud call from the climbers did he wake up and return to the “bosom of the detachment.”

According to researcher Dmitry Gromov, who collected many cases of observation White Woman, their plot does not shine with variety. The woman is clearly acting according to a well-worn pattern: she attracts attention, evokes a state of unearthly bliss, and then lures her into the abyss. The Two-Faced Woman of Speleologists operates according to a similar plan: upon meeting, she turns to the explorer with her young and beautiful face, leads him into some trap and immediately turns old and ugly. Some of her colleagues, however, act more honestly: scary old women took upon themselves the responsibility of leading speleologists out of traps, and young and beautiful maidens, on the contrary, lure them there. So to speak, division of labor...

There are a lot of similar characters in hiking folklore: Black and White climbers, Crying Boy, Calling Old Man... And in the mythology of different nations they are found with suspicious frequency. These are Greek sirens, who with their own voices deprive sailors of a sense of reality and direct their ships to the rocks, and Russian mermaids, luring swimmers to the bottom, and Romanesque vampires who bewitch their victim, and she goes under his fangs with great pleasure...

In my opinion, the most important thing in these descriptions, says Dmitry Vyacheslavovich, is that the phenomenon simultaneously occurs both in reality and, so to speak, in the observer’s head. In reality, apparently, there is a certain object that is the source of the event, but it also feels quite comfortable in the human mind, manipulating it in strict accordance with its script. Which is very significantly different from the description of “ordinary” anomalous phenomena: most descriptions boil down to the fact that someone is observing something, while experiencing some feelings that do not at all dominate the consciousness of the observer... That is, we are talking about some kind of a phenomenon that goes beyond our picture of the world.

However, it fit very organically into the picture of the world of our ancestors. From the point of view of Russian old witches, we live in a certain field that is made of the same “substrate” as the human soul. And many of the phenomena that we observe do not just occur in the material world or in our consciousness, they must be considered as a consequence of some (subjective and objective) complex within the framework of this special field.
