Ekaterina and Vitaly

Vitaly: The experience is positive:) We started running with the regular one, but it was terribly uncomfortable. Besides, it's not safe.
The treadmill itself is comfortable, even if you just walk down the street with it. Comfortable for a child, quite maneuverable and passable.
The only negative is the dimensions. For example, at the airport our stroller did not fit on the belt when folded, we had to remove the wheels. When transporting in the trunk of a car, the same problems occur (but this depends on the size of the trunk, of course).

Catherine: I ran with the stroller with both children. Stroller Bob Revolution SE.
About the stroller: the stroller is cool, passable, and comfortable. Comfortable for both running and everyday life, with a lockable front wheel. Over time, when running, she began to move slightly to the side. I calmly loaded three children and shopping onto it, drove through sand and along unplowed roads in the snow. It's heavy, but you don't have to lift it up the steps; thanks to the large wheels, it rolls in and out well. It is inconvenient when traveling, as it does not fit into the trunks of taxis, nor does it fit on the belt when folded.

About the running itself: I prepared with a running stroller (or rather, with a child) from scratch to a half marathon. But you need to understand that children may (surprise surprise) not like sitting in a stroller. Mine didn't like it. I always ran with my eldest while she was sleeping. It turns out that you set aside an hour for training, but in the end you spend half an hour hanging out on the playground or persuading the child to sit a little more. In general, when your training depends not only on you, it can be a little stressful. That's why I stopped running with my youngest. With a stroller, your running technique changes slightly. It’s hard to run around with a stroller; you can park the stroller at the stadium and run around.

Among the starts, I ran 5 km with a stroller in Paris and 10 km at the IM. It's fun, but not running for results.

Ekaterina and Alexander

Alexander: We both run and therefore there were no questions about choosing a stroller. Our neighbors bought Thule; in our opinion, it is prettier than other companies, so we bought the same one as our neighbors. But Thule also has a choice. You can use Glide 2, or you can use a stroller with a bike mount. By the way, Glide can be with a front wheel without the ability to spin, it is faster, another with the ability to spin the wheel. We have the second model. Its front wheel rotates around an axis and can also be fixed. The move is excellent. Now we ride with a cradle, since the baby is 4 months old. After 5 we will plant.

Catherine: Stroller model. Why Thule? Probably the most famous and trusted brand of jogging strollers. As they say, everyone runs marathons with Thule. We looked at different options, asked friends, read on the Internet, approached people on the street, and most of all we heard about Thule, and often from people who had tried sports strollers of different brands. By the way, at the beginning of October we took part in the BalloonRun charity race, where one of the distances was 2 km with a stroller, and the vast majority of parents were with Thule. There were also representatives of Thule’s partner, thstore.ru, who rented strollers. Why Thule Urban Glide? In fact, the pure running model is different - the Thule Glide differs from ours in its larger size, fixed front wheel and the presence of a hand brake (this model was originally released). But the Thule Urban Glide, according to many, is more convenient for everyday life, and is quite suitable for running (it was invented later). Now in the second version of the Thule Urban Glide they also added a handbrake. The Thule line also includes multisport strollers that combine walking, jogging, bicycle trailers, and can even be mounted on skis.

Pros. The stroller moves on its own and overcomes all bumps and barriers perfectly. Not the most compact, but very convenient: folds with one hand. In principle, if you remove the wheels, it fits in any trunk. Initially a walking one (for children from six months), but you can separately purchase a cradle for a newborn. This cradle really saved us, even to the point that it replaced our crib when traveling! Mileage. For me, as a young mother, the jogging stroller was a good incentive to start training. This is much more interesting than, for example, an ellipse at home, and more accessible than a gym. Again fresh air. You can start at a very easy pace of 7–8 min/km, which is also ideal for getting back into sports.

One of the disadvantages is that the stroller gives additional load, and the heart rate rises higher than during normal running; and a walk-jog is more realistic in warm weather, because after running you don’t have to change clothes, you can walk for a while; in winter this is more difficult. In addition, my husband would sometimes run with the stroller in the evening if he had a light workout planned (our grandparents live in another city, so either I or my husband would be with the child; he runs in the evenings after work, so if he runs with baby, for me this is a significant relief). The stroller also helps us in spending time together, again in combination with the training regime: my husband runs a workout with the stroller, and I ride next to him on a scooter - everything is done. It is also convenient to explore the surrounding area while traveling or to cheer at a race, moving from one point to another. How does a child cope with running? Initially, my daughter loved gullies, hummocks and other uneven surfaces; to better fall asleep we walked along gravel or paths in the forest. Therefore, if the stroller swayed on tiles, curbs, etc. when running, this was only a plus. By the way, the faster we ran, the calmer she was. Around three months things changed a little and she started to love flat roads, so now she only runs on flat areas. About distances and paces. As part of the competition, I ran 2 km with a stroller at BalloonRun (pace ~4:30 and 5:30 with hills - I had to sweat) and 1 km at the children's race of the Yerevan Marathon (~6:00). Probably the most interesting and longest run was the run around Moscow on City Day (~15 km).

About the reaction of others. Basically, surprise with suspicion, sometimes approval or even delight. In general, the whole spectrum from “Oh my God!” to “What a sport you have! What a great idea!” There were also funny cases. For example, one day I ran to the park along a stop where a bus was standing and wouldn’t leave. He opened the middle door and was waiting for me, and I just waved my hand past. Apparently, the driver did not expect this.

We ran with the Bumbleride Indie - it is not officially considered a running stroller, this manufacturer has a Speed stroller, which is specifically designed for sports, but I think that the Indie is also quite a running stroller. When I was choosing it, I studied this topic quite a lot and realized that there are a number of criteria - three-wheeled jogging strollers, and the front wheel must be able to be fixed (you need to run with a fixed wheel!), inflatable wheels - a big plus, this is additional shock absorption, The presence of a hand brake is not necessary, the Indy does not have one, but it is quite light (9 kg) and will not drag you down a hill, for example, but for heavy strollers it is better to be able to slow down. Another thing I love about Bumbleride is that it has good shock absorption, a wide and large seat (it will be comfortable for the child to sit and sleep), a super hood that is simply huge! plus, it can be lowered in front of the child like an awning, and on the contrary, leave an open space above the head — this can be important, for example, so that insects do not fly into the baby’s face, the wind does not blow, or the sun does not blind. Well, what else can I say... the baby must be fastened! It is important.

Now I have a three-wheeled stroller Phil Teds Sport, we haven’t run with it yet, but I want to try — it generally meets all the criteria: 3 wheels, the front one is fixed, inflatable wheels, a good brake right on the handle — if you let go of the stroller out of hand, she slows down. But it is 3-4 kg heavier than the Bumbleride and this is very noticeable. It will definitely not be easy to push her into our parkrun slide :)

Denis

We run with a multifunctional Thule stroller-bicycle trailer.
We carry it both on a bike and on a ski track.

At the “Space Race” in Samara

When choosing, I especially paid attention to the presence of shock absorbers, because we run and ride mountain bikes off-road. I rode my child for the first time at 6 months. The child is now 3.5, he is delighted with the stroller.

We skied down to -15°C. But this doesn’t only depend on the stroller. We sewed a warm bag for the child’s stroller. After all, for example, in the north and at -25 ° C, children are taken to kindergarten on sleds and strollers. In general, it depends on the clothing. There is one thing in the cold: when you collect the stroller from the trunk, your fingers get cold. But on more modern models, assembly has now been made faster and more convenient. We came to the conclusion that the most comfortable temperature is up to -10 ° C. When it's colder, it's hard to breathe uphill. On a flat track it’s not so critical. There is good protection from the wind there. It happens that “tourists” on the ski track worry: “he’ll suffocate.” The child is either sleeping, rocked to sleep, or looking around and urging him on (with the coach right behind him!)
But still the coolest application is a bicycle!

Stroller running in our large family is a way to combine family responsibilities, the need for a walk or nap for the child, and exercise.

For a child accustomed to running in a stroller, training becomes a period of calm, long movement in the fresh air with changing pictures around or, simply, in a dream. In this regard, for me running with a stroller is always a long event, 1.5 hours or more. A short outing is also possible if the child is not sleeping, but if he suddenly falls asleep, then it is a shame to wake him up at the end of a short training session. A child accustomed to a jogging stroller clearly reacts to taking a step, and, even more so, to a long stop in movement - he wakes up and becomes capricious if he has not gotten enough sleep. Idle, compassionate Muscovite pensioners always have, in fact, the most important question about the safety of the baby, is he shaking, is he cold, is he wrapped up in hot weather. In fact, there are many more questions about the safety of a baby in a stroller - stability of the stroller when running, control of movement when descending or on slippery surfaces in winter, smooth overcoming of uneven ground, wind or sun in the stroller, cold or heat, which are difficult to adequately assess when a parent he gets excited and runs, and the baby lies with a minimum of movement.

For a runner, there are a few special things about running with a stroller. This is a description of the experience I had with one of the best running strollers, the Thule Glide. It has a rigidly fixed front wheel. Not to be confused with the Thule Urban Glide, which has a swivel front wheel and slightly smaller diameter wheels. I ride my daughter in the first version of Thule Glide, and now a new version of Thule Glide 2 has been released with a number of small interesting improvements.

For a runner, first of all, it's not the same workout when you're running on your own. Other muscles work, there is no usual movement of the shoulder girdle, and if the stroller moves with one hand, there is an asymmetry in the movement and you need to monitor the change of hands. The stroller drags down the mountain, but it is difficult to push it uphill or run against the wind — the stroller sails a lot. Running is regularly artificially slowed down in order to avoid an obstacle, to smoothly drive into a hole on the road without shaking, or to avoid splashing yourself and everyone around with dirty water from a puddle. Frequent short stops are possible, if the child sleeps restlessly, is hot or cold, you need to immediately respond to the problem.

Secondly, running with a stroller ruins your runner's stats if you like to use sensors and computing devices like me. To be honest, the developers of running watches, heart rate sensors and algorithms for calculating running performance least of all think about fathers or mothers running with strollers. The watch is not on the wrist, because if the hand is pushing the stroller, then there is no adequate recording of step frequency — the watch is in the pocket of a jacket or pants. Accordingly, the pulse is not read from the wrist. A running chest-mounted cardio sensor with expanded functionality will count your heart rate and step frequency, then the watch can be on your wrist, but the wrist optical sensor in the watch is no longer needed. Algorithms for calculating running indicators always become lower when running with a stroller; when the speed decreases, the heart rate increases and all calculated indicators during training with a stroller fall, as well as all the positive dynamics of indicators earned in previous workouts without a stroller.

Thirdly, and this is the positive side of running with a stroller, you can carry water and food on the handle of the stroller under your arms, take warm bulky clothes with you on cold days, and at the end of the workout solve a household issue, go to the store for shopping and not drag them on myself.

Fourthly, not all competitions can be attended with a stroller; this is often rightly considered dangerous in a dense flow of people, especially at the start. Where I ran with my daughter in a stroller, I took a place at the end of the starting line, although then I had to start running very slowly, although I could have gone faster, and maneuver among the slow runners. There have been no dangerous situations at competitions in two years. Only once did I hit the sneaker of an athlete running in front, when he decided to move into my line of movement and did not see the front wheel of my stroller next to him, and I did not have time to react quickly enough. Fortunately, there was no fall.

My Thule Glide has made me love running with a stroller. Large diameter inflatable wheels effectively smooth out uneven surfaces. The shock absorption system on the rear wheels is very good, made reliably and absorbs unexpected impacts. The extended profile and fixed front wheel make the stroller safe and easy to walk. I consider a harness for the hand to prevent the stroller from running away on descents, and a handbrake as useless design elements; I don’t use them at all. The foot brake secures the stroller tightly in city transport or during long stops on the street.

I started running with my daughter in a stroller when she was 4 months old. The first race with a stroller was recorded on December 10, 2016, which means that it’s been 2 years since I’ve been practicing training with my daughter in a stroller. In two years, my baby and I ran 679 km together. And I am very grateful to her for her calmness and complaisance. And I apologize to my daughter that several times at the start of the race, she had to cry because of the loud music and the crowd of unfamiliar people screaming around. We don't like finishes either! 🙂

Andrey

I started running at the end of 2013 and didn’t plan anything like that. But it dragged on and it became part of life. Our first baby was born in November 2015. We had a regular stroller. Heavy and clumsy on 4 wheels. But I took the snowdrifts and sorted them out at once. I ran with her in a straight line on the embankment. As soon as the baby sat down, they began to look for a treadmill. After several reviews, the choice was between Thule, Baby Jogger, Bob. I really liked the “cartoon” from Thule, where the stroller transforms into a bicycle trailer or sled. But the price of 1000 euros in the basic configuration and ease of use encouraged us to look for something more practical. So that everyone understands, strollers are sold as cars in various configurations or only in the basic one, and for an additional payment you can purchase the necessary options selected to fit the size. That is, a Thule 3in1 in the base costs 1000 euros - this is only a bicycle trailer, if you want a walking option + 200 euros, a sled another + 200 euros. But what about in the summer without a mosquito net and raincoat, + another 100 and 150 euros, respectively.
And so, in fact, all strollers. Parents should be aware that a jogging stroller is a special product and has a corresponding price.

As a result, we came across a very tasty offer and we bought the Baby Jogger Summit x3 and all the extras for it. It seems to me that the price/convenience/comfort/practicality ratio is the most optimal here. Yes, the Thule Glide rides smoother and easier, but with additional options it comes with a different price tag. In any case, everyone is free to choose for themselves.
Since the spring of 2016, I have been running with my son regularly. We completed 2 full half-marathons with him, running under 2 hours (1:52), and ran 10 km at the Moscow Marathon. There have already been more than 30 parkruns.
Now my son is already 3 years old and he still enjoys running around in a stroller with me. But our second baby was born.
We borrowed a cradle for the little ones from friends, and they also helped us find adapters so that the Maxi Cozy infant carrier could be attached to this stroller. Such adapters turned out to be difficult to find. But we were lucky.
Now I run with either the younger one or the older one. The front wheel for running is fixed, there is a hand brake (not all Thules have it), shock absorbers (Bob has a stiffness adjustment depending on the weight of the child, but the front wheel is fixed in the frame).
Running, of course, is more difficult; at first, the butt is pumped well. I began to love downhill slides even more; at parkrun in Mitino, it’s difficult to storm the main slide. The stroller helps to stabilize the pace, sometimes it seems that I run faster with the stroller than without.

Our 2018 record is 22:40 at Krylatskoye parkrun.

— Adapters for baby carriers are difficult to find.

Nikita: Thule. Good jogging stroller. I recommend. Verified :)

Maksim: also Glide. Two children have already appreciated it.

P.S. They didn’t specifically look for Ekaterin for publication :) It was a coincidence, honestly.

A jogging stroller is the choice of those who quickly get tired of walking for hours with a child around the house and, after listening to all the podcasts and audio books on iTunes, hastily thinks that he’s had enough, it’s time to hire a nanny, but he’s not at all suitable for parenthood.

Jogging strollers differ from ordinary ones in that they are three-wheeled (more stable), their wheels are large and inflated (like a bicycle), the front wheel is fixed (or there is the possibility of fixing it), the shock absorbers are soft, the child securing system is more serious, there is a hand brake pen. Since in a city apartment having two strollers is a luxury that few people can afford, today manufacturers produce hybrid strollers that are suitable for both jogging and daily use: the front wheel is maneuverable, there is a large bag, the stroller folds easily (sometimes even with one hand ), weighs a little. Thanks to the large wheels, a sports stroller is more passable than a regular stroller, which is useful, given the height of the curbstones in Russian cities. By the way, while there are not so many fans of jogging with children in Moscow, official dealers position sports strollers as “high-performance strollers,” keeping silent about their true purpose.

Of course, you should follow safety rules: before each run, you need to check the condition of the stroller: whether the tires are well inflated (it is recommended to inflate them once a month), whether the pistons are squeaking (they are lubricated with bicycle chain lubricant), whether the front wheel is locked.

The technique of running with a stroller is slightly different from running solo: you usually run on the side of the stroller, pushing it with one hand and changing hands while running. When going up, the stroller is pushed with both hands. The height of the stroller (handle) should be adjusted to the height of the runner. When jogging with a child, it is better to choose not very crowded paths without curbs: you will not be able to maneuver between people as deftly as when running alone.

Experienced athletes advise explaining to your child in advance that your run has some visible goal, for example, to run around the football field or run to that tree. In any case, the passenger must understand what is happening and when it will all end. However, in our experience, it is difficult to find a child who would not like to run with mom, dad or other perky and close people.

For our test drive, we took different strollers: with a fixed front wheel (Thule Glide), with the world's easiest folding system (Baby Jogger Summit X3 Single), a stroller without a handbrake (Thule Urban Glide) and a Bob Revolution Pro stroller, because that Bob is today the most famous manufacturer of sports strollers.

The Village asked sports doctor Olga Ilyina and her son Nikita to test four different models of jogging strollers that can be bought in Moscow.

“Running with a stroller is a lot of fun. But you can’t use a regular stroller for running: it’s unsafe. I highly recommend running with a baby older than six to seven months. The child must hold his head well and sit quite confidently: the fact is that until this age the child’s vertebrae and muscles are not sufficiently developed. The upper age limit has not been determined, but I doubt that a three-year-old child can sit comfortably in a stroller: at this age he already wants to run and jump. Ideally, the child sleeps while jogging.

Running with a stroller takes your workout to the next level: your core and arms are actively involved. (I often change hands while jogging to compensate for the imbalance.) Leaning on the handle of the stroller while running is strictly forbidden, even if you are very tired. It’s better to rely on your strengths and just not let things get to that point. The most important thing to remember: during the entire run, you should not let go of the stroller for a second. Almost all jogging strollers are equipped with a seat belt, which helps you not to lose control of the stroller even if your hand accidentally slips off the handle. The belt can be transferred from hand to hand, so it will not interfere with changing hands.

Otherwise, the running technique with a stroller does not differ from the usual one. When running on any bump, the stroller will shake - you need to try to choose a flat surface. It is easier to run on asphalt than on the ground. But the forest near my house is quite flat, so I usually train there. Mom runs - the child sleeps in the fresh air.

My longest running distance with a stroller is 12 kilometers during a training run and 8 kilometers at an official race. I don't risk taking my son on a long race, like a half marathon, because he might get bored and not want to sit in the stroller anymore. Although I have repeatedly seen parents who run such distances with a stroller.

Bob Revolution Pro

The backrest reclines in all strollers, but the Baby Jogger has the shallowest recline and deepest seat depth. The widest seat is on the Bob stroller. In general, Bob’s seat is more comfortable, anatomical, with bolsters under the child’s back. The back is more rigid than other strollers.

The Bob stroller folds in two movements, with the seat facing inward. Moreover, when folding the stroller, you do not need to empty the basket or take out the mattress or envelope: with the Baby Jogger, for example, this will not work.

The Bob has a complex shock absorber mechanism: a closed rod mounted on the seat. The system works great. This is the only stroller in our review in which the hardness and softness of the ride can be adjusted.

But the shock absorption on this stroller works at full strength when the child’s weight is greater than Nikita’s, or the basket is loaded with shopping.

Price: 432 dollars (Amazon), 35–37 thousand rubles (Yandex.Market)

Thule Glide

The Thule Glide is the lightest stroller we test. It is compact, it has a basket that can be closed, and an additional pocket. Thule has a two-layer hood. This stroller differs from the other three in that it has one front wheel position.

The seat belt buckles on all strollers are very comfortable and durable. I especially liked the Thule and Baby Jogger strollers.

Folding Thule strollers is very easy: fold the fabric part of the footrest up, move the blue handle to the right and close it. The only thing is that the strollers do not stand when folded without support, but you can roll them behind you like a suitcase. Both Thule strollers have rear wheels that can be easily removed using buttons.

The stroller has an easy ride, but I prefer the Baby Jogger ride. But for running, I would undoubtedly choose the Thule Glide stroller - perfect and very fast.

Thule Urban Glide

The Thule Urban Glide is the only stroller in this review that doesn't have a handbrake. This means that you can only run with it on perfectly smooth asphalt paths without curbs.

The back of the stroller is rigid, adjustable with a belt like the Baby Jogger, the maximum tilt angle is slightly less than that of the Bob and Baby Jogger, approximately 170 degrees. There is a mesh in the back, you can open it slightly and close it back with fabric. The straps can be unlaced freely to put on envelopes.

The front wheel is easily fixed with a button so that you don’t get your hands dirty. Thule Urban Glide and Thule Glide strollers have shock absorption on the rear wheels.

Baby Jogger Summit X3 Single

The fabric I liked best was the Baby Jogger Summit. I think its quality is better. Bob's fabric is stiffer and rougher, Thule's, on the contrary, is thin, like a raincoat fabric. The Baby Jogger has a more domed hood, while the Bob has a straighter hood. This matters to me because the hood of an older child lies almost on his head. The Baby Jogger has side windows on the hood for ventilation, which is very convenient.

The Baby Jogger straps are most convenient - they are longer and do not require modification (any envelope will do). The backrests recline quite easily for everyone, but the Baby Jogger and Thule are easier to manage.

The seating position is comfortable for all strollers, the child sits and does not slide anywhere, although my Nikita liked the Baby Jogger (the deepest seat of all) and Thule Glide the most.

The Baby Jogger has the best cushioning. Although all the strollers in our test ride smoothly, the Baby Jogger has springs on both the rear and front wheels, which gives an additional soft ride. The wheels on all strollers are easily removable, but only the Baby Jogger allows you to remove the front wheel by pressing a button. For all other strollers it must be specially unscrewed.

The Baby Jogger's folding system is the simplest and therefore even patented: the stroller folds in one motion, just pull the handle under the child's seat with one hand.

MANUFACTURER: Baby Jogger (USA)

WEIGHT: 11.5 kg

Conclusion

For me personally, the Thule Glide holds the lead - an absolutely ideal stroller for running: the rear suspension is very soft and comfortable, and the lightweight aerodynamic design gives maximum impact from running. I'm a big fan of the easy ride, where the stroller flies and you only need to guide it a little. In this regard, all strollers are inferior to the Thule Glide, in second place I would put the Baby Jogger, and Bob is very close to them.

Baby Jogger turns into turns after thinking for a couple of seconds, but Bob is more responsive. All strollers handle any road perfectly: both asphalt and forest paths. In conclusion, I want to say that all four strollers are worthy of consideration, and I can confidently say that these are the best jogging strollers available today.

Premium model for twins from the Swedish brand THULE appeared on the Russian market relatively recently, but has already managed to win the hearts of buyers. A double stroller is perfect for urban conditions, and is also ideal for athletic parents with an active lifestyle. The benefits of jogging with a stroller are obvious: strengthening muscles, fighting excess weight, developing endurance and simply lifting your spirits - and mothers are guaranteed to feel great after giving birth. For children, driving fast will not hurt: fresh air and speed help them fall asleep faster at this particular pace. If the child has grown up, then the idea of running will attract him more - after all, he will see so many interesting things looking around.

THULE Urban Glide 2 Double Stroller It has a lightweight aluminum frame and a streamlined shape, ideal for active walking.

There are only three wheels - again for greater mobility of the model and minimalist design. They are inflatable, with the possibility of inflation, durable tires and metal spokes. The wheels are easily removed by pressing a special mechanism.
Manufacturers also took care of the strength of the product: the frame is resistant to deformation, since it has a completely cast structure.

The sporty design of the Urban Glide 2 double stroller is laconic and attractive: three options of non-boring colors will appeal to parents.
The quality of the upholstery materials is admirable: the fabrics have a soft, breathable texture, do not get wet in the rain, and do not fade in the sun. The stroller's textiles hardly get dirty, and if something like this does happen, the parts can be easily removed and washed at 30 degrees.
The stroller hood has several positions for maximum child comfort. It has a silicone viewing window that closes with magnets so that parents can always quickly check the baby.
The Urban Glide 2 double stroller has two wide seats.
The back of the walking blocks is adjustable, reclining almost to a horizontal position using special straps so that children can rest while riding.
The seats are non-removable and have a non-reversible position - the integrity of the structure ensures its greatest reliability.
The walking seats are equipped with seat belts with five fastening points.
They are easily fastened with automatic carabiners, and the padded shoulder pads provide the greatest comfort when riding.
The bumper of the stroller can be moved and adjusted in several positions, has a metal frame with leather upholstery, which is comfortable for kids to hold on to. It can be easily removed with one click of the mechanism.
The THULE Urban Glide 2 double stroller has a specially designed handle designed for rapid control of the model.
It is adjustable in height in several positions, and the base, which you hold on to control it, lowers and rises.
The handle has comfortable leather upholstery that protects your hands from sweating and cold. There is also a strap on the handle for gripping the stroller.
The sportiness of the Urban Glide 2 double stroller is reflected in the large number of practical pockets, of which this stroller has an incredible number.
Each seat hood has separate large mesh pockets for small items.
On the front side of the seat in front of the baby there are mini pockets into which bottles can be conveniently stuffed.
The spacious shopping basket with zipper and flap has easy and secure access from different sides. Any mom who loves big shopping will love it.
There is a marked lever under the footrest for folding the model.
One movement - and the stroller is already in the assembled position!
Its compactness will save space in your car and will be a pleasure to store.

Today I would like to present to your attention my review of the Thule Urban Glide stroller, which I was given for testing. It's not just a simple stroller, it's a jogging stroller! When I first heard about this combination, I thought that it would not be in demand among me. But no, I’ve already found reviews that some parents buy specifically for running. And it’s great that activity is spreading to the masses! Although, of course, most people use it as a regular stroller, because it is incredibly comfortable. The closest analogue of the well-known Mountain Buggy Terrain models, only it is 4 kg heavier and costs twice as much.

Specifications and price

The Thule Urban Glide sports stroller is positioned as universal: for the city and for running with a child. There is another Thule Glide model (without the Urban prefix) with larger wheels, a completely fixed wheel, so it’s just a running one. But I think it will be less popular, the niche is too narrow.

  • Three-wheeled stroller. The front wheel is swivel, but can be locked in two positions.
  • The rear wheels have shock absorbers and a power reserve of about 10 cm.
  • Weight 10 kg, load capacity 34 kg. It’s relevant to me, Egor is heavy.
  • There is no hand brake, only a foot brake. It is tight, but its design is indestructible and holds very well.
  • The back reclines 160-170 degrees somewhere, that is, not completely horizontal.
  • The rear wheels are 40 cm in diameter, the front wheels are 30 cm. The rear wheels are easily removed by pressing the blue button in the center of the wheel, the front wheels can only be removed using a screwdriver. The width of the rear wheels is 65cm.
  • The length of the stroller when disassembled, the handle in a horizontal position, the front wheel turned forward is 136 cm. The length if the handle is lowered is 115 cm. Dimensions when folded: 89x40x53cm with wheels removed.
  • Seat width 28-32 cm, depth 21 cm.
  • Price for August 2015 - 32,600 rubles. You can buy it in this store.

There are no photographs during the run, but this process is captured on video :)

Review and photos

Let's move from numbers to impressions. I think you already understand that I really liked the stroller. The first thing you notice is how well it is made, it’s even pleasant to touch. The second thing you notice is the control! No, I knew that three-wheeled strollers are easier to steer, but to be so maneuverable... I don’t know what about a fragile woman, but I can easily control the Urban Glide with one hand, which can be very useful in some situations. Moreover, it has such an easy ride that even on a small slope you cannot leave it without a brake; it will roll away. Well, and lastly, you should try folding it, I haven’t had a single baby stroller yet (and I’ve already replaced 5 of them) that would fold so easily, it does it itself. I filmed this process on video.

I will list the various nuances point by point.

  • The stroller simply “floats”, apparently due to the large wheels. With these it is more convenient not only to run, but also to simply walk, both on the streets and off-road. I specifically walked around the city and shopping centers, at the dacha on asphalt and gravel, through the forest and potholes to check. SUV!
  • As I already said, the cross-country ability is excellent, but the three-wheeled concept itself is not for everyone. For example, when leaving a curb (especially at an angle to it), the front wheel becomes crooked, causing the stroller to tilt. It is unlikely that it will fall over, but you have to hold the handle tightly, you never know. With four wheels it is much easier in this regard. This is probably the only significant minus.
  • Weighs only 10 kg, that is, less than its classmates. It feels light, although looking at the number you can’t tell right away.
  • The fabric is thin, like a raincoat fabric, I read that in hot weather it can be a little hot for a child to sit on, but I haven’t encountered this myself, Egor didn’t sweat.
  • Unfortunately, there is no bumper and for me this is a minus, somehow I’ve already gotten used to it. But you can buy an additional table for 2,700 rubles if someone really needs it.
  • When folded, it cannot stand (either with or without wheels), only leaning against the wall. In general, in terms of storage, the stroller is a little bulky and not for small apartments/hallways. However, if you have a classic four-wheeled cradle sitting quietly on your staircase or hallway, then the Thule Urban Glide will do just fine.
  • The front wheel is fixed in two positions: under the stroller and in front of it. The latter option increases the wheelbase, making it more comfortable for running. However, I ran with the wheel unlocked.

The only thing that strongly does not fit into Russian realities is the combination of wide rear wheels and small shops and elevators in residential buildings. You can go to Auchan and Perekrestok and shop without any problems, but in a small store that has either a narrow door/ramp or narrow rows, it will be cramped. You can’t go to some establishments at all. It’s the same with elevators, for example, in my house I fit a stroller in a small elevator (I also have a freight elevator), but at my parents’ house she gets into the elevator with great difficulty, I have to push the doors apart. However, this is rather a problem not of this particular stroller, but of our stores/elevators, because with a regular stroller-cradle the way there is also closed.

Do you need a stroller for running with a child?

I’m not an athlete and I run occasionally, but overall I liked the idea. In reality, there is a situation when you only have half an hour, and you can combine the benefits for yourself (running) and for the child (being in the fresh air). But it is advisable to choose smoother surfaces for running, because if you run on ordinary streets, then ramps, curbs and other elevation changes are stressful; although the stroller is shock-absorbing, the child jumps at every obstacle. I won’t say that this is directly critical (the child did not express displeasure), but I personally would like smoother streets. I can say the same thing about our forest, riddled with ATVs, you can’t run there with a stroller, however, it’s not super convenient to run there even without one, and you can’t get through it at all with a regular stroller.

Ideally, it should be compared with other running strollers, but I don’t know of any others. Therefore, I have experience with only one. At first it’s very unusual that your hands are in a fixed position, but after 5-10 minutes you get used to it and run as if nothing had happened.

P.S. My regular Peg Perego Pliko Mini stroller didn’t last even a year; our potholes finished it off. More precisely, she is alive, but somehow slack now. Let's see how Thule behaves.

Life hack #1 - how to buy good insurance

Choosing insurance now is incredibly difficult, so to help all travelers. To do this, I constantly monitor forums, study insurance contracts and use insurance myself.
